Please help me with coilovers!
Please help me with coilovers!
I am looking at replacing shocks/springs with nice coilovers. I do not want to pay outrageous name brand prices, but I don't want cheap crap that will ride bad or break easily. I have not heard of some of the brands I found and would like some feedback from you guys.
Basically, have you ever used these brands or heard good/bad thing bout them?...
(X= I've never heard of em)
Tanabe X
Tien
ST X
Skunk 2
Progress X
Pic Performance X
Megan Racing
KW X
K Sport X
KYB
Koni
Eibach
Buddy Club
Blox X
B&Gn X
Apexi
I know this is a long list and that a lot of these have been covered in other threads but I kinda want a side by side comparison type of critique.

Re: Please help me with coilovers!
Most of these are all very high rep name brands
I personally have not ridden in most of them, but i've drove my friends MX5 with skunk 2 coilovers.
All i can say is that they are VERY sturdy, and firm around corners, almost no body roll (but then again, the MX5 is not a heavy car)

^ I already looked in the suspension section, a lot of these were not mentioned (like I mentioned in the OP).
I am just having trouble deciding because there is a huge price difference between some of these.

^ It is a daily driver for now. I like sports cars and don't mind a rough ride. Nothings rougher than the leaf springs I had on my old truck. I would like it to handle like a go-cart. I am not into investing in the engine in this car, but I want really nice shocks, tires and Brakes and the shocks are crappy on there now so that is the first step. I think I might autocross it after the winter. Eventually I will get braces and bars to stiffen it up also. I would like something that will last a while, and take the abuse that I will surely dish out.
Re: Please help me with coilovers!
How low are you looking to go? for street/DD I think the best coilover for the $ is Progress I think they will do a 2.5 inch drop. I think if you wanted to have a really tight setup that would be good for everything Ground controls and Koni yellows but is some work to do that setup, also around 1K. Here is what you would have to do https://www.civicforums.com/forums/4...ferrerid=84687 A close setup to this without all the cutting would be to use Ground controls and Tokico D-specs they are adjustable and ready to go. I am just a street DD but if you want to get into autocross read this https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...ing-101-a.html

Re: Please help me with coilovers!
Here is the best price on Progress http://www.corsportusa.com/store/cat...roducts_id=481 For my DD I just picked up some Eibach Sportline springs 1.4" drop and Tokico D-Spec's I almost did the GC's & D-Spec's but since I dont really need to adjust the height I just went springs and shocks. 1.4" is all I want for street and I felt like the progressive rate spring would give me the better/softer ride for DD.

sam68,
just be careful on the recommendations, Mad Dog have an 99, so it's double wishbone 6th generation, so very much different than our 7th gen strut suspension.

You should look into BC Racing BR Type Coilovers. I have them and they are great.

no probs, we are having fun for sure!

just messing with you!
but as stated above, take the answers with a grain of salt. some could not apply to the 6th gen.

Re: Please help me with coilovers!
quality may be, but really not sure if they will have been well designed or not...
Several of the suspension systems we use without problems are known as crap in the miata world... because they were not well designed, will give a crappy ride... same could be applied to different year models, so just in case!

Re: Please help me with coilovers!
I have actually heard of all of these and have used some of these before. I have used the tien and the megan racing and they where both a good set of coilovers. But as most people knows that tien and progress are the main known and respected coilovers cause they are basically the best. They have very good quality and they last. Most of these coilovers would be good to have. If it was me I would get the tien, progress, or the buddy clubs. If they make d2 coilovers for your car then those would be a excellent est of coilovers.

I think I might get those. I didn't think that the tiens looked very good for the price. The progress looked like a decent price/value so I won't rule those out.
Has anyone used the Eibach ones? I like those but cannot get eny feed back on em because they are so new I guess.

Re: Please help me with coilovers!
Tein coilovers are very expensive, but everyone seems to love them.
I had a friend with Megan racing coilovers who swapped them out for koni/gc, because they weren't performing well. My friend loves the D2 coilovers he has in his skyline, but I've heard a couple bad reviews about them in 7th gens. Just my .02 cents.

Re: Please help me with coilovers!
my experience:
JiC FLTA2s - loved them, rode great for a long time corned great no bump steer
Megans- not happy, great on paper, rides like a skate board, tons of bump steer, cornering is OK, defective unit shipped and megan refused to replace or repair it... i plan to return to my JiCs...
Heard good things on KWs & tiens
Used to run Nuespeed sport springs never had a prob...
Apexi is more of a track set
hope this helps...

Re: Please help me with coilovers!
stay far away from those cheap chinese BC coilovers just because they look good doesn't mean **** . megan,skunk2,D2 i would also stay away from especially D2 and Ksport the quality of the aluminium is questionable KW,tien, buddyclub, eibach are very good but also very expensive. im going to tell you with personal experience the best coilover on your list is Progress technology for all around build construction ,ride quality and price.

Progress are at the top of my list right now but...
I just bought a truck that I will be driving until spring. So I have a plenty of time to consider my options.
I will also be getting adjustable a-arms and the arms in the back (forget the name). And I need new tires also. Sense I have a truck now for the winter, I will get very agressive summer tires for the Civic.
