Cutting Stock Springs ?
Cutting Stock Springs ?
I know this sounds stupid and even i used to feel some of krazy abt people who cut their springs ... but today i need advice ....
My whole suspension is F#$$ed up today .. Springs and Shocks everything ... My budget is limited ... so i need to work things out ..
If i replace my blown oem shocks/struts with kyb gr2's and take of the cheap dropzone springs (3 inch drop) and replace them with OEM springs cut only an Inch and a half ... Would this be a good idea ?
Ill appreciate your help.

Re: Cutting Stock Springs ?
how did you screw up your springs and struts on all four corners? it takes a lot to mess up springs, basically only age, rust, and extreme heat will do something bad to them.
the springs are wound so that they match up to the shape of the spring perches. when you cut them, you're cutting that "mount" portion off, and they will spin in place, causing alignment issues.
i've run cut springs on one of my old volvos, it wasn't worth it. as soon as i went to actual lowering springs everything felt and looked so much better. you'd be better off just saving up a little and waiting, springs are less than half the cost of all four struts. if you're really that impatient and have to do it now, then at the very least DO NOT cut them with a torch, a cutoff wheel works, and a hacksaw is the best. you want to put as little heat into them as possible, as springs are heat treated and if you heat them up you run the risk of ruining that original treatment.

Re: Cutting Stock Springs ?
u think u regret it?
i cut my springs on my 02 accord, took a corner and the springs gave out (because any time u cut the springs, u F**k up the compression, rebound and dampening) and i totaled it. (reason why have my civic now)
