Tuning Tein Flex Coilovers

I have read many threads about Tein flex coilovers. Most people say dont get it cuz ur a n00b and you wont know how to tune it and play with all the features. Well i got flex at a price I couldnt say no to. And I think they will last forever. So now that Im beyond the point of well u shouldnt have bought $1800+ coilovers to begin with I would really like to know how to tune them properly. I have a few questions to begin with. The first one is Howcome it says there are 16 levels of dampening but if i turn them all the way to their hardest setting and count to they get to where the lowest setting ends I count 28 clicks. Where do I start from wen adjusting dampening hardest or softest and why do I have an extra 12 levels. It is on all 4 dampers. Also what is with all this independant compression and rebound settings stuff. I have no clue. I dont have edfc cuz its not worth the extra money. Also how do i adjust the camber on the pillowball upper mount. Please help me out. I feel like such a NOOB

Re: Tuning Tein Flex Coilovers

The question would be are you trying to tune these for handling performance or "feel"?

Re: Tuning Tein Flex Coilovers

basically for enthusiastic daily driving. Which means 9 times outta 10 i'll be daily driving but occasionally i'll wanna rip thru a parking lot or hit up the track.

Re: Tuning Tein Flex Coilovers

Ok.

Here's your tuning schedule.

1. Set your dampers to full soft.
2. Gradually increase your damper valving till you feel the car start to skip over bumps & ruts.
3. Reduce your damper valving by a click or two down from that point.

This will give you your maximum damper valving settings. This is the point where going stiffer will just make the car more unmanageable over less then perfectly smooth asphalt. I.e. its bad for handling, and yes it also means you will have two different "maximums". One for street (softer) and one for track(stiffer).

From there you can tweak the cars understeer/oversteer balance by softening the end of the car you want to have Grip more (Yes, the softer end of the car will generate more grip)

Sounds Easy right?

as far as alignment goes, you shouldn't be messing with it unless you have the proper equipment. however, Definitely get the car aligned. And try these spec's

Re: Tuning Tein Flex Coilovers

but hey can u help explain why there are 28 clicks on the damper. In the book it says start at the hardest setting and count 8 clicks back. But it also says dont exceed level 16. So should i start at as far soft as it can go and go 8 clicks???? Im thinkin i should start at the softest too. It makes the most sense.

I wouldn't be able to tell you why there are 28 "clicks". It may be a good idea to contact tein and ask.

Re: Tuning Tein Flex Coilovers

In the instructions it tells you not to turn past 16 clicks regardless, I have the Tein Super Street Coilovers, not sure why on earth u would spend $1800 on them when all you do is daily driving, you could have went with the $700 or $800 Basics and wouldn't know the difference between the two, but hey, your money not mine. But usually when people suggest not to get something and get the basic's or SS's they do it for a reason.

Re: Tuning Tein Flex Coilovers

ya i get it. But... I got flex that my buddy used for 2 months then he had to part out. He had them on his car from september till november and took them off and i got them for less than basics in canada. Basics in canada are 1500cdn. And i read a lot about basics and they were not reccomended because they have a poor ride for daily driving. I would have prefered super street but honestly these flex are basically brand new and i got a deal i coudnt pass up. And they are from wut ive read the best suspension system you can buy for our cars except maybe jic magic which i read have a history of breaking and maybe buddy club. Or kw V3. Either way I think im gonna like my flex. I wanted dampening adjustment and i wanted corrosion resistance. I hope the flex will give a good ride. And i really hope they handle well wen i take the car to the track. I wanna start getting into autox

Re: Tuning Tein Flex Coilovers

I have megans and they said start on the hardest- turning all the way to the right, and not to turn it past the last click (32 dif clicks on mine) so turning to 33 would be a nono. The book said it would damage the coilover. I wont be testing to see if they were lying or not.

Re: Tuning Tein Flex Coilovers

hey man i live in canada and got flex on my civic this past summer. I was an idiot and wanted the best suspension and payed full price for mine...sadly it was $2200 . either way i was kinda upset at first because i couldnt really tell how well they handled on the street except for it was an insanely ROUGH ride even on the softest setting (if you cuold even consider it soft). Anyways i took it to the track in duneville last weekend and let me tell you, it handles AMAZING. i wouldnt trade the suspension for anything in the world by far the best mod ive done to my car. I dont even care how much i spent becuase the suspension is THAT good. I took my moms slk 55amg to the track and i felt like my car carved through the corners smoother and just overall better feel (clearly not as fun though because the civics lack of power). as for your 28 clicks i was in the same boat. I wasnt sure what they came set at from the factory so i just kept turning until it stopped. When it did it was something crazy beyond 16 clicks aswell. After reading that turning it to far was a nono i decided to go half way between the extremes knowing it would be in the safe zone. Honestly never really bothered tuning with the dampening since i set it at that because i couldnt get over how well my car handled ont he track. That is the only suspension mod i have as of now except for a set of hankook tires but wow buddy take oyur car to a track, i think thats all our car will every really be good at is taking to a track. lol
