B&G coilover problem

I wanted to adjust my heigt a littler higher for my B&G coilovers and ran into a problem with one of the rears...
The adjusting nut (i dont really know what to call it lol) seems to be stuck on the thread and i tried to force it but the whole sleeve is now moving...

Any suggestions on how i can fix this? i tried tons of wd-40...damn thing is stuck on there good.

Re: B&G coilover problem

you have the S3 version of the coilovers right? is both adjusting collars stuck or is only one? from my experience, when the collars are stuck, i'd just get a hammer and screwdriver and tap the collar until it begins to move. just place the tip of the screwdriver (big flat one) in one of the notches of the adjusting collar and lightly tap the end of the screwdriver like a chissel. start off lightly and use more force as necessary.

thats just MY way of doing it, but there may be other ways too. try hitting the coilover with some PB Blaster, WD-40 is crap.

Re: B&G coilover problem

Since we're talking about problems regarding the B&G Coilover, I'd like to add a concern. Today, when I had the car up on the hoist, my mechanic and I were checking the underbody, suspension components, and we found that when we wiggle the front rim/tire left and right, there's play in the strut assembly, around the piston/shock housing area. No play anywhere else... not in the upper mounts, both crash bolts, tie rods, balljoints... or anything. The play was pin-pointed to the actual piston assembly. This is the same situation on both sides.

Is this normal for the B&G Full Coilover? I'm thinking since there's no load on the front shocks, and the piston is completely uncompressed, that's what results in the play. When the car is on the ground and the piston is now compressed and back in the strut housing, the play is no longer exist, because the piston goes back in and is now loaded with the weight of the car?

When I drive, I don't notice any play... steering is tight and precise... cornering and on/off ramps I can take with ease... no knocking noise... car tracks perfectly straight... I would think the play is normal.

Then again, this is just what I think.

Can anyone shed any light on this concern? Anyone else have B&G's that can confirm if this happens to them too or not?

Please post with your comments, suggestions, etc.

What about those of you with different brand coilovers... does this happen to you? Normal? Feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!
