Koni Yellows

Hey guys new to the forum I am a budget minded enthusiast and was wondering if koni yellows would be my ideal suspension set up. My car is a very daily driven machine. I want a lowered stance to compliment the rims and performance, but dont want to cheap it out with just springs that will eventually ruin my oem shocks. any advice???

I have Koni yellows (not on a 7th gen) and I really like them. I would say that most people here would agree that they are a good choice. Good Luck!!!

Koni's are definily a good choice.

Other options would be KYB's or Tokico's, both of which will do fine for daily driving. Depending ofcourse how low you've droped the car.

Hey Dust

I'm in the exact some boat as you right now. I just dropped some rims and wheels on my car. Its looking like a 4x4 right now. I have been doing some research on the forums for the last 2 days on the site. Here is what i have come to.

1)It seems that if we go with coilovers your budget just goes straight threw the roof. That's if you want a decent brand. With the coilovers you get an exact drop height. I would love to go this route but I'm just not in the budget of doing this....just yet i think?!?

2)You could buy springs which are responsibly priced. BUT It seems if you go below 1.5 or so. Which is still pushing it. You might as well replace your shocks and struts. Cause if these are sitting on OEM shocks it just might be pushing.

3)Another point about springs it seems that. With some brands there are lower drops in the back than in the front. Again brand depending.

4)It also seems adding a chamber kit for both front and rear will also help.

I've yet to get a definitive answer from searching the forums. I am trying to figure out a good estimate of an official drop to most springs. Cause people have said that the springs eventually settle a little lower after installed. The reason for my inquisitiveness is cause. I really just wanna replace the springs with my OEM shocks. I have a 4 finger gap right now. I would like to get it down to 2. So if i go 1" drop with some settling into a say 1.2" - 1.5" I might be ok. But to be on the safe side if it does settle into that then i might as well replace the shocks eventually. Its a weird pickle of a game. Also I just think that a lower drop in the back than the front is just plain nasty.

I might be incorrect about some of the info but from what i have gathered after a day of searching the forums. That is what i came to. Any experienced 7thgen guys think this is a good assessment?

I was looking into getting the new shocks, Koni's in fact. Sense they are fairly priced.

Hahaha not to jack you post. i thought i might shed some light on my current research.

i enjoy koni yellows. installed for about 100,000 mi. spring settle will not exceed .2 inches. plus the yellows are adjustable, so if you want that stock feel, just swet them at stock dampening level. plus, these are a gas shock. more durable. stock shocks are oil filled. and i hear they leak often.... i replaced mine at about 50k because of leaks. back then no one made struts for the 7ht gen, and i hadf to gut and modify my stock struts. i don't know the quality they have now, but a shock insert worked great.(and still does)

As jAhblK01 said, there are a few options as far as lowering your car, but in the end it comes down to what you want to do with your suspension, and how much money you have to spend.

Since you said you are a "budget minded enthusiast," and your car is going to be used as a, "daily driven machine," a spring/shock option could work for you as opposed to coilovers (which are a little more costly). As others have said, the Koni's are a good choice, so make the a starting point in your decision.

I think your best bet is a good set of springs and shocks/struts. I have heard good things about the Konis with the exception of them being pricey. If you want the most inexpensive quality set-up I would go for a set of Tokico blues. I have them with Eibach Sportlines (1.7 drop) on my daily driver and they perform great. If you cheap out on the springs you are going to get sagging and a rough ride. Just stick to a spring set that is progressive.

Thank you guys for the excellent and honest feedback. I am still debating on my final decisions but it is reassuring to actually get honest opinions and advice from guys who have been down this road before or is attempting to travel it now. I believe ltbmotorsports.com may have the cheapest prices I have seen so far on a full set of konis and the koni kit paired with the koni lowering springs. I have a feeling I will just save the cash and go ahead with the koni yellows and pair them with eibach prokit---for the progressive spring design. My set up so far is stock being only an intake, cat-back, and the 18s. When the car is lowered I will post pics and give you all a verdict. again thanks everyone

I have the koni yellows that i was forced to get threee months after i dropped my car with neuspeed race springs. The koni's have been on my car for 85000 plus miles and i love them. My heavy suggestion is to get the springs shocks and camber kit all at the same time. I would if i had to do it all over again. i had to get three alinments within four months because i didn't do everything at one time, but at least i was able to do all the installs myself so i didn't have to pay for that. If you need to wait a month or so to do it right then def. wait and do things right.
