Need help with new suspension configuration

Need help with new suspension configuration

Ok,

I've just been told by my mechanic that I pretty much need to replace my entire suspension. My ride has been very terrible, and living in NYC doesn't make it easier. Here's what I need replaced (Honda prices)

Front strut/spring assembly: Left side $240 Right side $235.

Front bushings: $13 each. You need two of them.

Rear knuckles: $125 each. You need two of them.

Rear struts, tops, boots. Right side $115 Left side $115

Now, after reading the posts, the OE struts are very bouncy and go quick. I want good struts, ready for NYC driving (potholes, etc.). I'm deciding for:

1. Tokico blues ($400 for all 4)
2. H&R Springs ($300 all 4)

I like the slight lowering by using H&R because of the roughness of NYC and minimize bounce.

My question is about the knuckles. Can I go with Honda on these? See prices above. Also, If I buy #1, will it come with tops and boots? What about bushings? Anything special I should know? Thanks for your guidance. I need help!

2001LX, 4DR, 85K miles, stock steel wheels, new Turanza tires.

You're taking your mechanic a bit too literally.
Buy a set of Tokico blues. Reuse the stock springs.
You can reuse the mounts and the springs
The knuckles don't need to be changed, nor do any bushings unless they are actually shot.

The knuckles are huge blocks of steel. I should think thats one of the indestructable parts on the car unless you found a way to smash a curb and crack it.
You really only need
2 struts
2 shocks
a bushing kit and someone to press them out and back in.
MAYBE new bumpstops if the old ones are cracked beyond reuse.
Beyond that, its just extra garbage you don't need to fix the problem. Lowering springs are an option, thats up to you, but then also add Camber kits in.
Read the FAQ as well.

Thanks for the help. Well, it looks like the bushings are definitely shot. As for the knuckles, I need to find out if it's bad.

So, I guess springs don't go bad necessarily? While I'm in there, I'd like to improve handling by going with H&R springs since it slighly lowers the car.

seems like your gonig for a very small drop

h&r

are all good choices.. look in the classified here for cheaper springs, but they most likely wont come with any warranty (although i highly doubt you need one on springs)
