Squeaky noises from suspension mods...

I have some really loud and nagging squeaky noises coming from the bottom front and back of the car. I haven't grease up my suspension mods since I install them about 6 months ago...just wondering if it could be from the sway bars or the Progress rear camber kit...and maybe Grey's endlinks, do they make noises too? Comments welcomed.

I Know my endlinks make a bunch of clicking/squeaking and such... thanks to them being spherical bearings. (They are Greys BTW)

my car clicks/squeaks/creaks also. when i am on a bumpy road it even seems as if something pops in and out of place.
but the creaking happens when im not moving, but turning the steering wheel.
i too would like to know how to rid of the clicking noise...
(noise only comes from front drivers side of car)
(Possibly a loose or too-tightbolt?)

The noises on mine are whenever I go over bumps, even small ones. I can tell the diference between the endlinks' noise and the sway bars or the rear camber kits. End links have a metal kind of sound, more like (tuk tuk tuk kind of sound) I don't know how the sways or camber kits sound, but I'd imagine they are the ones doing all the really nagging squaeky noises. Geez!!
I'm thinking of putting Zerk's fiitings on the sway bars to avoid having to take them off. By the way, where do I apply the grease on the rear camber kits, on the middle threads or where they mount to the control arms?

did you leave some space between the end of your coil spring and the ridge where it sits in the base of your strut? if you don't have a good 1/4" gap there, that could be the source of your noise.

otherwise, i'd check for play in your wheels to see if your ball-joints/bushings are ok.

if you didn't pre-load your suspension before you torqued everything down, it's likely you've mangled some bushings by this point.

before you torque down all your nuts and bolts, you want to "load" the suspension of the side you're working on with the weight of the vehicle. if you're vehicle is on a frame hoist, you can just lower it down and place a jack stand or something under your lower arm/trailing arm until it squeezes the spring a bit... in your garage you'll have to get more creative... maybe sub the frame hoist for a floor jack.

in the front suspension, you'll want to put the stand directly underneath your lower ball joint... if you put it under the flat part, you'll bend it. in the back, just center it on the trailing arm and you'll be fine.

It's your sway bars dude. I put my front Progress bar on a couple of weeks ago and didn't use enough lube on the bushings. I sprayed them with a little WD-40 as a quick fix until I can get under the car tomorrow.

Just spray it with WD-40 and drive over bumps for a bit. If the squeak goes away it was the bushings. The WD-40 is only a temporary fix and you will need to remove each bushing individually and lube them up good.

Thanks for the info. guys.

etdigitalis, let me ask this...How much load would it require to be considered "loaded" and properly reinstall the sway bars? I work at home and w/jackstands, so does that mean that I'd have to put force on the rear suspension with the jack to get the spring to compress as they were when the car was mounted on the wheels? Would that be the right load?

I'll try the WD-40 trick. I might as well buy better bushings if these are already worn out, we'll see...

That's correct... you would install the sway bar and lightly tighten the ends while the rear of your vehicle is supported by stands at your lift points. Then raise it up and center the stands under your trailing arms. Slowly lower your vehicle until the weight is fully transferred to the stands. Then leave the jack in place (as a precaution) while you torque everything down and you're done.

I'm not sure if others out there with sway bars have done it this way... maybe that's why so many folks have problems with squeaky bushings? idk

^^Thanks for the info. Regarding the sway bar bushings, how often do they need to be greased up? I haven't done mine since I install them 6-7 months ago.

Should CubanMike grease up the metal bearings that are found on the aftermarket endlinks, or that will make no difference? His aftermarket endlinks have no rubber boots or bushings, just metal bearing allowing it to move about easier.

In terms of WD40 it wont loosen your bolts while your driving will it?

The WD-40 should not loosen the bolts unless you drive right away. It evaporates pretty fast so if you let the car sit about 10-15 minutes you should be fine.
