Tomes Coilovers

Well i just got some Tomes coilovers put in my car just so i can dump it for now and let me tell you its not worth it. The only reason i didnt get springs were so that i can dump my car but those coil overs didnt even get me past 4 finger gap and its bouncy like crazy. i know thats what i should suspect form coilovers but ive been in lots of ppls cars droped on coilovers and let me tell you i can swear i pulled a muscle from bouning hahah i even hit my head on the roof a couple of times but yea i guess you get what you pay for gonna switch to full coilvers. i was planning on geting full coilevers but im poor and just wanted to get my car droped and get rid of that stockalishes look but i dont think i can stand another day with the bouncing but yea just thought i should let you in on my experince

I guess my first question would be what the heck is a Tomes Coilover? Then I would ask where and how much were they, that probably would answer a lot.
Then I'll bet $5 that you put them on stock shocks, which is probably why they're so bouncy.
I found no difference in bounciness when switching from a full coilover setup to Ground Control sleeves. If you've got shocks that can handle the springs, niether should be very bouncy.

Problem 1. You bought parts you never heard of. Thats never good.
Problem 2. You bought coilovers for $100. You can't even buy 2 decient racing springs for $100 none the less a full set with collars and sleeves.
Problem 3. Stock Shocks with stiffer springs
Problem 4. Cheap is bad. Sometimes name brand parts are the only way to go. Suspension is one of those areas where you buy big names and pay for it. Eibach, H&R, Hypercoils, etc.... are names you should be looking for on straight rate racing springs. Not generic garbage. Take them off, take them back, get your money back and spend the $300 or so for something like that. The hardware isn't as important as quality springs. Thats the big key. Springs that won't sag or change rate, that are wound true out of a consistent wire. Crap like that is why springs cost money. If you're buying $20 springs, you're not getting any of that stuff. Lowering a car is NOT something that you try to do as quick as you can for as cheap as possible. You end up causing more damage than you help yourself with. It takes far more than $100 to do right.... more like $600+ for the right way (shocks, springs, camber adjustment), and can get far more expensive than that. Do it right and save the trouble later.

Tom`s front springs are thicker diameter
than rears to handle the extra engine weight.
Most other brands use the same thin diameter
for both front & rear.
Pulled this off the website. This just shows me how little they know about spring design. Basically they're saying that they use stiffer springs in the front regardless of the application, which is dumb, but you don't need a thicker wire to hold the weight of the engine up. You can change the rate by coiling the same thickness wire tighter or looser. Number of coils per inch does the same thing for the rate and any spring designed for a car will hold the weight of an engine up (its only a couple hundred pounds, it takes far more than that to break a spring wire under a constant load). Most springs break in fatigue from an impurity in the wire from when the wire is first rolled before the spring is every coiled.

dont worry, your not the only one here. i desperately wanted to drop my car so i went sleeved coils as well. but they were skunk2's, a reputable company.
i suggest you put your stock springs back on if you dont want your factory struts to blow or find a good set of full coilovers.
