suspension upgrade questions
ok well im starting to upgrade my suspension. i have a 01 LX coupe and so far i have a rear strut bar lol. i had the front one on but it created too much body roll so i took it off for now. i have a progress front sway bar on the way so the strut bar will be going back on once the sway bar is installed. next i want to get into the shocks/springs. what would u guys recommend? coilovers or a spring/shock combo? oh i would like to drop it 1.25"-1.5". maybe a bit more not sure whatll look good but most likely not over 1.5".

um.... Couple of things..
1. Chassis reinforcents have no effect on body roll. that is controled entirly by the springs, shocks and Antiroll bars. (If you are trying to make the car handle better, you shouldnt be paying much attention to body roll, but rather how the car is actually handling, as in Is the car understeering? oversteering? ect...)
2. If you are increasing the size of the front anti-roll bar you are going to increase understeer.
are you sure you have a rear strut bar or did you change the Rear anti-roll bar?
Other wise, what are you planning on doing with the car, is this a Daily driver, or something you plan on autocrossing or Open tracking?

1) read the suspension FAQ
2) read the Suspension tuning 101 in the Autox forum. Read all the links that are posted!
That will provide you with a lot of background info. Read that first, figure out what you want to do with the car and then ask questions.

oh sry for not mentioning somme of that stuff. i want to do some open track but other then that just daily driving. and zzyzx dont ask me why, but when i put the front strut bar on it did increase body roll if i had the rear one on too, and my car doesnt have a rear sway bar, and yes i know the difference between the two. also, when i put the rear strut bar on it actually has a slight bit of oversteer now, which suprised me since thats all i changed. and i didnt actually know that enlarging the front sway bar would increase understeer. and yes the car did handle better with the front strut bar on, but i didnt like it for now since i wasnt going to the track.

Well, Your going to get alot of opinions....
but I've Found this setup to be very fun.... assuming you don't spin.
1. Eibach sportlines (yes they are soft, but then its a DD car..)
2. Koni Adjustible shocks (Full soft on the front, 1/4 up form full soft on the rear for street use, autocross = Full soft on the front and 1/2 Turn down from full hard on the rear adjust as nessisary)
3. OEM 03+ 15.9mm front anti-roll bar, Hotchkis 25.4mm 2 point adjustible Rear anti roll bar(Set on full stiff).
In the Hayame Vs SS.... Take the SS, as they have adjustible dampers.

i cant use the rear anti rollbar zzyzx. LX's dont come with it, ill prolly just stick with the progress front and see how it goes, if i dont like it i can always sell it. ill go with the Tein SS too if they have the dampers, didnt realize the hayames didnt. your setup does sound fun though lol, got some nice oversteer dont u?

Like zzyzx said, you will get alot of opinions. If you want to do open track, i would suggest talking to the guys in your local club to see what to suggest. It is going to be a lot of trial and error. Definitely a rear sway bar (22mm maybe?). If you are going to do open track then I wouldn't buy anything less than tien SS. Which means JIC, TEin SS, Tein Flex, Springs w/konis, Tokico D-specs.
I am currently running JIC (450/500), neuspeed front strut bar, obx rear strut bar, rear poly LCA bushings, 19mm rear sway, and stock front sway (although I am probably going to go to the 15.9mm one). Don't forget to spend money on a good set of rims/tires and good set of brakes if you are going to be racing. upgrade your brake fluid and maybe even get SS brake lines.

plus im not sure how serious im going to get into it, i have an automatic (can u say lol?) but ive heard about this open track style of racing where they judge u on skill and not on time, so i want to see if theres anything like that around here. but yeah, ill just upgrade a few things and see how it feels, and if im not satisfied ill get deeper into it. oh, and what kind of springs would be good for a 1-1.5in drop with konis?

another question, lets say i want to just stiffen up the suspension, would i need springs or shocks or both? lets say not going all out for track racing, but just stiffening it for straight line acceleration to reduce weight transfer to the rear of the car.

they don't sell it seperatly.... you have to buy the RSX's street kit, which comes with a front and rear bar.
They do however sell their 27mm rear bar seperatly. :P

If you do decide to get the hotchkis bars, you may or may not be able to use the front bar. If you have an LX or DX you probably can use it, but you can't use it with a EX.
