Hayame or Skunk2?
im gonna order coilovers in the next couple days, but i am trying to decide between the hayames and the skunk 2's. i have heard good things about both of them, but i like the fact that the hayames come with struts as well. anyone have any advice as to which to get? i will be dropping it about 2-2.5 inches. how long would the skunk 2's last at this low of a drop. hayames i know would last much longer, but will the hayames drop that low? thanks in advance!
hmm..i only like the skunk 2s cause i know they are race proven and the red matches the color of my car/scheme i'm going for. otherwise...hayame are a great purchase for daily driving if thats what your doing. i'm thinkin' about the d2s myself when my tax return comes in. i would think those would give you the best of both worlds. good handling and comfort for daily driving. up to you though.

Not sure why everyone's dissin' the Hayames. I LOVE mine. But as already discussed, you can't really slam your ride with them (i.e.: tuck the rear wheels into the fenders).

how would the skunk 2's be with the stock struts? as in how long they will last?would you reccomend getting struts with the skunks? because if you cant go very low with the hayames, i dont want them. i want to slam my car about 2.5 inches or so.

ok, this is like compareing apples and oranges. on one hand you have a "full coilover" /haymen/ and then u have a "sleeve coilover" /skunk2/. haymen isnt the best full coilover out there but is alot better then skunk2. in order to make the skunk2 "sleeve coilover" like the haymen. u need to buy new struts. right now only koni makes one for our car, so that's about 550, then you need to get new springs because the spring rates on the skunk2 and ground control are really soft. that's 150-200. ok so far you have spent 225-300 for the skunk2 "sleeve coilovers", 550 on new struts. 150-200 on new springs so its not a harsh ride. and then 100-150 on the install. you can save that money if you can do it your self. wich is not that hard to do. but then sceen koni is just a insert for the front. youll need a shop to do the swap, wich is another 200.00. once again, you can save that money if you do that your self. now just add all that up and see how much it cost, and compare it to the cost of the haymens. now you can save your self money and all that headace, and have a better handleing car with the haymens, and at half the cost of haveing to do all of that other stuff.

^ha! a 2.5drop with stock struts, with the soft spring rate, that comes with the skunk2s. i give u hmmmm about a month. probly a week to hear your first bottom out. good luck on going the expensive way. if you want a 2.5 drop go with springs nuespeed race. not garbage *** skunk2s. sorry but i hate all sleeve coilovers.

Does any one know the spring rates of the Skunk2s or Ground controls? I've heard several times that they are soft, yet no one has actually posted # to my knowlage.
i've got the skunks and if you're going to lower it that low, prepare to by some new shocks! i had too! but they're bout the same price if you put shocks and coilovers together. if i had it to do over, i'd get the hayames

now you guys have me wondering, haha, what could i get then that would be adjustable, and would be good to go that low? i really want hayames but i hear that they do not go very low in the rear. can i please have your opinions!!!! thanks
i think you should save up more cash and look forward to a full coilover set like d2/b&g/tein/etc.
i went with skunk2 coilovers on stock struts, i THINK my shock blew after 6000miles+ the ride quality was ok because i dont care for comfort. yes, it was bouncy when it comes to mini-potholes, freeway driving, going over bumps, etc.
skunk2 coilovers - 8/10
why?:
1) rear doesnt go low enough (it gave me half finger gap with stock tires)
2) the quality of the material used is not as good as ground controls, the adjustable perch where you spin to adjust the ride height... it was so hard to twist it up and down, had to grease it to get it moving.
3) spring made noises when i turn while the car is not in motion AND during motion, its the metal plate rubbing against metal. suggest you grease these parts of the area to prevent this from happening.
so thats 2 points off of rating cuz of 2 probs. i think my rating is fair.
oh yea, btw what do you plan to do with your car? if just regular street driving, maybe skunk2s can be your choice on the budget. if u got the extra cash, seriously get a set of full coilovers and not sleeved. mostly if your living in an area where roads are horrible.
hope this helps.

thanks alot man, that really helped alot. i think im either going with the hayames, or idk what else. still deciding. i got the money to spend, but for what im doing, i dont need coilovers to be over $1,000 ya know? thats why hayame seemed perfect for me. i just hope availability isnt an issue.

alright, i really have no idea what im going to get now. It is just a show car, want it to ride good, but small bumpiness doesnt bother me as long as it doesnt throw you out of your seat, i want to get rid of ALL wheelgap, i want it to handle as good as possible, and i also want it adjustable. How would ground control coilovers be? if not, what do you guys suggest for under $600 or so! read the faq but it didnt help me!

that considering, I'd say that most issues with them are because of the user not getting shocks at the same time. the stock shocks are not capible of controling such springs.

Ground control COilovers, would be find for handling, IF and ONLY IF you got Koni shocks with them.

where can i get them and how much? if not, what about getting just springs? how is that on the stock struts/shocks? is there any good way to lower it without replacing the struts and shocks so i wont blow the stock ones? thanks alot
no matter what you will end up blowing your stock shocks with aftermarket springs/adjustable springs. it can be the day after tomorrow or the next few years. it depends on how you drive the car and how well you handle with potholes/curbs/bumps/etc on the road. even carrying 4 heavy ppl in your civic can blow your shocks by just them sitting in the car and jumping around like wild zoo monkeys.
BUT i heard stories about how ppl with neuspeed sport springs and that they handle pretty well with stock shocks, but not perfect. but thats only a 1.5" drop i believe? if your looking for tucked/slammed/dumped, i suggest full coilovers.

jttegx- oh, i didnt see that at the bottom. oh well, i think im gonna go with the d2's for $850 shipped anyways. they are better than the tein basics for a cheaper price.
UltimateShock- The 215's are great. they dont stick out at all. I think they are just perfect. i would reccomend them.
