cheap way to drop

hey i got a question, how come people instead of buying either lowering springs or coilovers, they take there factory springs, and either cut them to make them lower, or melt them until they lower, i remembr when i had my springs installed, the guy told me he could do that for my car, but i was like "NO" it even sounds stupid to do...

Some progressive springs you can cut a dead coil or 2 off. It is not suggested that you cut a linear coils (most stock coils). it weakens the spring and you will end up with a really bouncy ride. It can be done, but it is not suggested if you want to lower correctly. The poor boy method is not good for the springs, shocks, or chassis. Your suspension holds you to the ground, would you really want to risk an accident by cutting your springs?

i know that's right.. cutting the springs is STUPID.. and i had sprint springs on my last car.. nice drop.. but some people on here have them. i must say it's kind of generic, and their customer service SUCKS.

it is just a stupid and cheap *** thing to do. although some people do it because there are no springs out for their cars. my friend with a 99 explorer 2 door on 20s wants to cut his springs down because there is no lowering package out for his car at all besides bags.

you will learn, if you do someothing cheap when it is suppost to be done a certain way, you will end up spending more money in the long run, unless you do it right the first time....

The single TRUE purpose of modding is, "Don't make your car any cheaper."

If you do this to your stock ride, you really don't know what you already have. Stock rides nice. At least if you were to get springs with a shitty ride, you could go back to stock and enjoy the qualty of it.

You can get Evotion Springs installed for $250 CAN thats like $50 bucks to you guys in the states, I have to disagree about it having to cost alot, unless you want to drop your car alot ( 1.8" to 2.5" ) then, to do that right you need a pocket o' cash.

But always be glad you have so many options for the Vic's. You dont have to spend the cash, you want to.

you must seriously be joking right? We have one of the cheapest cars to mod out there today!! They hyundais, kias, saturns, nissans, etc, don't have the market honda and toyota do so their prices are higher. Plus the bigger the engine or more expensive the car, the more expensive the parts. Ever try modding an s2k or a STI or a EVO or a Ferrari? those aren't cheap parts.

I mean you definetly got a point bro, but i dont know im a college student and ill admit its A LOT cheaper to drop my car than my friends 325ci but i guess if i want to drop my car right $1300 (coilovers and camberkit)or so is a lot just to drop in comparison to my other friend who has a 1998 civic and his drop costs a lot less. In one perspective your absolutely right but then again its not dirt cheap either you know? Sometimes i jus wish i had the older ones, even though they dont look as nice....parts sure as hell as cheaper and you got a bigger selection.

It really isn't cheap compared to other cars like it was stated before.

But if modding a cheap car is out of your budget... say save $200 to buy some sleeved coilovers off eBay... borrow a grinder, buy some blades, do the spring install DIY, chop the perches and you have a slammed Civic. It'll ride like ****, but it won't be as shitty as cut springs.

if you're a college student and don't have the money, then do the things that mean the most to you, but do them right. No one said modifying your car was a cheap hobby. If you can't afford it then don't get yourself in debt. If you want a cheap hobby, take up knitting or crocheting. You don't have to spend 1300 to drop your car. Hayame's are only $650, or you can do springs, konis and camber kit for less than a grand.

everything you need to know about hayames

I don't have much of an opinion because I have no experience with them. If you are just going for looks they are fine, if you want to race on them, i would look for something that adjusts.

If you want to lower your vehicle don't cut your springs, or heat them to do it. The cheapest way to lower a vehicle is to purchace some lowering springs. Just trust me on that I speak from experience. I had my springs cut and also had another set heated. When doing that you are reducing the performance of your springs because the springs were specifically designed to handle the load of your vehicle taking most of the work off your shocks keeping your vehicle at a good center of balance.

When you buy performance aftermarket springs they have been specifically designed and tested to handle the load of the vehicle at the lowered ride height so you wont damage your shocks. You are still going to have to replace them in 6-8 months down the road but It will be a smoother more agressive ride untill then.
