I currently have Ground Control Coilovers on right now. Need new shocks or new setup. My budget is no more than 650.00. I am confused on what to do?????? Should I save a lil' get koni's w/ my GC's, or should I get the Hayame kit????? Also which would be better overall?Don't know what to do??????? THANKS FOR ALL YOUR OPINIONS......greatly appreciated
Well...that question could best be answered with a question...
WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO DO WITH YOUR SET-UP?? i.e. Race? or Daily Driver?
If you're going to race....I personally am going with the Koni's...adjustable dampers are VERY nice to have.
If it's going to be a Daily Driver....Hayame's are good.
This is what my local import shop Tech. told me....
Me- "So do you think the Hayame's would be good for Solo2?"
Ben - "Well...do you like PepBoys stuff? I mean APC ****?"
Me - *laughing* " HELL NO!"
Ben - "Then get the Koni's instead...the Hayame's are no better than anything you can buy at PepBoys...if you just want a smooth ride with a drop..the Hayame's are an EXCELLENT choice...affordable, complete system, no worries...but if you want to race with them...I'm not so sure they'd hold up to a Solo2 race."
Me - *slamming fist on counter* "DAMN IT...I just ordered the Hayame's!!"
Ben- *Laughing* " Why didn't you come talk to me BEFORE you ordered your ****?!?!?"
Me - "Cause I'm stupid, lol"
So...I trust Ben....and he's been working on Imports and racing both Solo2 and Drag's for YEARS...so I'm pretty sure he'd know if anyone did. Like he said, I think they'd be good for the Daily Driver...but not so much for Solo2....
BUT....that's just my $0.02 (Take it for what it's worth. Boilermaker1, robclark, Zzyzx, etc. would know WAY more than I...PM them if you want more details)

Just to add, with Koni's on the softest setting theyre just a tiny bit firmer then stock. So you can have the best of both worlds with Koni's and a good spring. Konis have a life time warranty also.

but then you also have to remember... gc's arent great springs to start out with.. they are way too soft. I would recommend upgrading them to stiffer ones, especially if your going to race... and ya not everyone here races.. and just because its great for race doesnt mean it holds up well in daily driving...

I know my Neuspeeds are good for racing...but SUCK for daily driving. TOO STIFF....for most. lol
I like my suspension stiffer than most people do, I grew up with Ford Trucks, lol, so I don't mind the effect my Neuspeeds have...but my girl and friends don't like riding with me.
Hopefully the Koni's can help that some...'cause I HATE driving the XTerra !! lol

My GF's car has the same setup you do, I'm still tooling around with the shock settings to smooth out the ride
Full soft gives a crappy ride, way too bouncy
I've got the front really nice now, I just need to find the right setting for the back. It's kinda tough to tell if the shocks are too stiff or too weak for the springs. Good thing I can adjust them from the back seat

Because you need to pay the fees to sell stuff on this site. Pay the vendor fees and you can sell things.
Anyways.... Ground Control will make you any rate you want. Call em up. I think the Konis are only good for like 450 lb/in before you have to re-valve them, but 450 is getting up there. Something like a 350/450 setup would probably work pretty well. And like everyone said.... racing requires adjustment.

Your GF's car is on Eibach Sportlines and Konis? I like a soft ride for my commute so I run them pretty soft. I have my front and rears at the moment set to 1/8 turn firmer from full soft. I need to adjust them a bit firmer now since I just got new tires that are softer then my previous ones. I love having that option heheh. I know alot of people set the front firmer then the rear, but it all depends on you own preference.
