quick noobie question
for the past few months ive been slowing teaching myself about cars allaround and how they work, the components, engine, blah blah. this site is REALLY helpful in teaching me about them
anways, ive been always focussing on learning about the engines and ive got a pretty decent idea of how they work
now i want to learn more about suspension. read the FAQ's, really helpful and informative.
i was watchin super2nr TV and saw them do a spring install on an '02 civic SI. they dont disclose tons of details but ive got the main idea.
what they did was take out the factory spring and put in an adjustable coilover. my question is is it really that simple? could i do the same to my '04 civic coupe, just take out the stock spring and put in the same spring they did? and is the adjustablility part of the spring or strut? doing this install, i could use the same front struts right? and is the rear suspension the same configuration as the front so i could expect the same spring swap as the front for the rear?
yeah i searched, but i needed the really basic questions answered

well i my self have a new 04 civic to and have just ordered GC's for the 01-03 civic because i figure since they haven't changed the suspension the ciolovers will still fit.
1)it's not so simple if you don't know what your doing lol...yea you can follow the DIY but hey sometimes you just have to expeirence it yourself, but i think the "SPRING " install is pretty easy!
2) and the adjustablility part your talking about is not on a set of springs instead it's on sleeved coilovers which allow you to adjust the height up and down.
3) and i guess your third question was can you use the same shocks well the answer is yes you can but you risk blowing them out causing BUMP BUMP BUMP.
4) and the rear spring isn't the asme as the front ....the front spring is wider from the rears and the rears are narrower then the fronts !

Some coilovers also let you adjust the compression of the shock from soft to hard. The coilover height is adjusted by the spring and perch, but most coilovers have an adjustable shock also. B&G's have a self adjusting shock, Tein basics don't have any adjusting, but most of the others usually have anywhere between 5 and 30 way adjustable shocks. 15 way adjustable is the most common.

Dont forget that anytime you do any suspension change you need to have the wheel alignment checked to insure proper tire wear and handling. Also changing of ride height without rechecking wheel alignment is
Most people would find spring changes fairly easy with some basic mechanical knowledge. But then again ive seen so called auto technicians change struts and shocks improperly. There is a right way and then the way everyone else does it. If your not familar with the basic set up and procedure id suggest reading a VERY good DIY'er or a manual of some kind.

please just buy a full coilover or buy shocks and a coilover sleeve ull be sorry if u dont swap to some better shocks in the long run ull kick urself in the *** trust me on this one....the stock shocks arent meant to be used with coilovers
