stock rear shock question....

i have a question about the stock rear shock.

i installed a set of coilovers on a 2k2 LX. the rear shocks have a washer on the rod of the shock kind of in the middle where the rod tappers. can i remove this washer??

reason i ask is because after installing the rear coilovers(without the sleeves), just the spring, it only dropped 1", and the ride is REALLY ruff. is that washer is keeping the the shock from compressing....?

thanks.

i guess my question is, what could be the reason the rear is only dropping 1" with just the coilover spring and no adjustable sleeves??? shouldn't it drop the maximum drop that the coilover states, which is 3" ?????????
