Unhappy Torn bushings

Just got my car back from Honda after checkup before winter sets in. Had to replace both "lower control arm bushings" because they were torn. Friggin expensive!!

Question is this: what the heck are they, and suggestions for getting better bushings that don't break as easily? any suggestions for the latter welcome, except for "drive slower"

oh yes, their explanation for them breaking was "turning too fast".....I guess spending a couple hours on the track with stock suspension will do that

TIA

Suspension techniques makes a set of Lower control arm bushings out of Polyurethane. I check out the bushings every time I swap between my street tires and racing tires. and I need to replace mine too.... One more thing to do I guess

no, I'm not trying to eliminate them or anything , just trying to learn

Energy Suspension makes Polyurethane bushings. They are harder than rubber so that add better turning, but lessen ride quality. They should never be replaced, maybe lubed sometimes, but not replaced. If you are racing then they are a good upgrade.

Anyone know if the Prothane Brand bushings are any good?

I would call Prothane and ask what is exactly included in that kit. I don't believe that we have shifter bushings because of the cable shifter. If it is only the control arm bushings then you should be able to get front and rear ES bushings for less than that.

JayFReaZy will become famous soon enough
Last time I went to honda, they said I need to replace my right control arm bushing. Im wondering too, what exactly does it do? I havnt replaced it, and I dont know when I am. Its been a while I've been driving that my right control arm bushing has been "cracked" or something like that. Can someone explain what exactly it does, and the effects it has on your car if you dont fix it?

good idea, I'll give them a call after work. I was just curious if you guys have heard anything good or bad about that brand........I think I might go for the Energy Suspension bushings since I only need control arm bushings right now.
Where did you order yours from?

Control arm bushings buffer the vibrations from the wheels. The wheels move up and down on the control arm and the bushings help cushion it. They are like motor mounts. when you stop, the motor goes forward, and the rubber bushing cushions the motor. The stiffer the mount the more vibrations or road you feel, but you get better suspension performance because there is less lateral movement. That is my understanding of them.

i got my from www.pnatic.com They sponsor my car club. They don't list them on their site but they can get them for you. Lightening motorsports has them too i think.
