Newbie Q's

Hey,
I'm new to the Honda thing and need some ideas. I'm looking at buying a 2003 Civic sedan with a auto trans. I wanted a 5-speed but my wife's bad knee won't last long with a clutch. I've built several air cooled VWs and a few more Chevy,Mazda,Jeep,Isuzu and Suzuki, but I need to keep the mods on this one streetable(IE..ones my wife won't notice to much). So with that said here are my questions:
Is there a shift improvement for the auto trannys?
What springs could I use for a 1-1.5" drop and not bounce all over the road?
And last I want to improve the exhaust and intake. I don't want the super loud fart cannons I see on local rides just something with better flow and a mellow tone. As for intake....I don't know, I'm looking for performance and milage with this car, what do you guys recommend? Any input would be great, Thanks

haha you and your wife have a great relationship. The only things you can probably do are things under the hood if your wife doesnt look there. If you do have mods under the hood, better hope your wife doesnt have a heavy foot or it will be noticable as hell. Also if you really wanted to do the exhaust, do it ghetto style, 2 1/4 inch piping with stock muffler LoL. BUT WHATEVER YOU DO, DONT LOWER THE F*CKING CAR OR YOUR WIFE MAY LEAVE YOU CAUSE THE RIDE WILL BE SH*TTY AND VERY NOTICABLE.

okay some of what you said is not true! First Zuk88 when you say is there a shift improvement with an auto tranny are you talking about is there a way to improve the shifting on it? if so 2 words ...Torque Converter. And also what zex said about the bouncy ride and everything about not lowering your car ...man there are plenty ways to drop your ride with no bounce...for example (don't know if it will work the same on a sedan because of the different weights and everything) but i have a 2dr and i have goldlines and man i don't get no kinda bounce what so ever when i'm driving and i actually like the bounce but i get no bounce!! Also another way for a no bounce( not saying it won't bounce a little ) is to get true coilovers or springs with after market shocks now this will take away most of the bounce if not all!! some one correct me f i'm wrong please..!!

Bounce is caused by either blown shocks or shocks that are too weak to control the springs you have, so If the car bounces get better shocks.

For the other things........ Don't know sorry.

OK maybe I sounded like my wife will freak over a 1" drop, but not true. What I want to do is lower the car a little, if I slammed it 4" or something she would be pissed. 1-1.5" would be cool, so who makes springs that won't break the bank? As for the auto trans, my friend built a Neon with a auto and he put a electronic box somewhere and the shifts where firmer and at higher rpm. He said it was cheap but didn't tell me what it's called before he moved away. Who make a cheap but effective intake and exhaust(I'm building a rockcrawler and don't want to spend alot on the daily driver)??

For springs I recommend H&R Sport springs the hold the car up well. They give you a 1.3" drop which gets rid of most of the wheel well gap without being ridiculously low.

I plan on 17" wheels later on so that would work good for me. How do the H&Rs ride?

Okay. For an exhaust, def get the DC sports tcs one. Sounds good but is def not loud. As for intake, u will only hear a noise difference in the higher rpms and the exhaust will mask some of it. So for good ones i recommend either injen or aem. For springs, neuspeed and eibach r great and hav springs that lower ur car to between 1"-1.5" and are pretty smooth. The important thing is to get NEW SHOCKS cus they will def smooth the ride out and eliminate any chance of a bouncy ride(they r expensive though). A good place to buy springs is Import Horizon . they have great prices
