Koni rear suspension issues - Revisited
Hey all.. I know this has been dealth with a gazillion times but I though this may be helpful for others experiencing this now and in the future (possible sticky?) because this is direct from Koni HQ and should therefore offer at least some comofort:
Issues with Koni rear suspension on civics?
Should I be worried?
Should I have them welded on?
there ya go...
Issues with Koni rear suspension on civics?
The issue that Michael had posted on 7thgencivic.com has to deal mostly with the
coilover sleeve that he used on there. The problem was that the sleeve was not
centered on the shock and did not have an adapter ring to hold it on.The only two ways that I have ever seen a circlip fail is either an installation
problem or a spring that is going into coil bind (rarer but I've seen it).

No. The H&R Sport springs that you have are good aftermarket springs and the
install was likely done all right. The only install problem that could have
happened with you is if the spring seat was installed upside down (so that it
would face up like a cup). However, the rear of the car would have sat WAY too
high had this been done.

No. You should never weld anything to a shock as it is under gas pressure. The
circlip design works very well and has been in use for over 20 years by us. My
two current street cars, a Miata and a VW GTI, both have shocks that use this
circlip system though, like your Civic, only on the rear in the case of the GTI.
I have taken both on track days, very rough roads, etc. and not worried at all
about their strength. If you have any questions, please write back and let me
know. Thanks.
