Tein Basic Installation help
Hey guys I know there's a DIY on installing springs and GC coilovers, but I can't find anything on installing Tein Basic coilovers. From researching this suspension forum I know this:
1) You will need the 01 mount bearings for the fronts.
2) You need to cut the dust boot or it might make noise.
OK here are my questions:
Does anyone know here I can find good instructions (DIY) on installing these coilovers? (besides the pdf file on Tein's website)
What was the hardest parts to install? and where? (Front or Rear)
For the TEIN basic owners ---> I heard some good things about these coilovers, but what about the bad? ?(besides the price) do they drop low enough? Do you regret not getting the Super streets instead? Does it bottom out when set to the lowest drop?
Sorry for so many questions but I will be getting these next week and I would like to install them myself w/ some help from friends, family and of course you guys.
Cheers

umm its same as spring installatino. STRAIGHT forward install.
MEX made diy install for springs. you might want to take a look. my tein ss didnt bottom out at lowest setting and you shouldnt with tein basic either. thats the whole point of getting fullcoilovers

the bad on tein, prob. is stiff. but I like it.....sporty
if you want slam it, it depend on the tires, u can check my "New Album", as you can see Si rims with stock tires, and i didnt set at lowest setting yet, still about 1.5" in.

MIT that's about the ride height I want. I might go about 1.8 F 1.6 R with my SI rims. You car looks very clean w/ the SI rims I like it. Also you posted something about cutting the dust boot. Can you explain to me how much you need to cut or do you have any pictures of the before and after.
civicvtec1ps I saw that DIY by MEX a couple days ago. That's what I was looking for but for the TEIN Coilovers. But if it's the same then I'll just use that, It's pretty informative, damn good job
thank you!
So besides the front bearing mounts and cutting the dust boot (I'm not sure what this is) am I missing anything for the installation?

hey, glad my DIY will be useful
you can follow the instructions step by step, coilovers are even easier to install than springs because it's an entire new strut. the only parts you will need to keep from the old suspension are the bearing ring and upper mount.
refer to this page for more info as to why the 2002 upper mount and bearing ring wont work well: http://gametrax.net/b+g/. Even though that is making reference to the B+G coilovers, the TEINs are just the same (though i have not confirmed this in person yet).
as for cutting the dustboot, you don't need to. not for a true coilover install.

I recently installed Tein SS, which are Basics with adjustability, and you'll need to keep more than just the bearing rings and upper mounts from your old struts. The instructions cleary show you needing to retain some of the old washers, spacers, and other plastic/rubber pieces(dust covers, etc.). Make sure you pay very close attention to their order and orientation on the old strut, because that's they way they'll go on your Teins. Make sure you have a torque wrench, and record how much torque it requires to remove each and every nut/bolt. this way you get them back on with the factory specified amount. for safety and piece of mind.
Getting your ride height dialed in can be tricky. After you get all your Teins installed, you'll work your way around the car getting each unit adjusted to your specifications. After completing an adjustment on a single unit, I recommend that you lower your car back to the ground, and using your body weight, bounce whatever end of the car you're working on up and down a few cycles. This will re-settle your suspension, which will be somewhat 'upset' from being jacked up. Then check your measurement(center of wheel to bottom of fender lip).If you don't do this 'bouncing'step, I found that you may not end up with the measurement you thought you were getting. It will save you some time, and pulling those wheels on and off gets old quick.
just take it slow, pay attention to Teins instructions and diagrams, and above all be safe.
