Tire Selection HELP

Okay, I am looking to get new tires and rims. I want a larger and wider tire than my current Nitto 225/35/r19 tires and a smaller rim. I have an 03 civic EX.. heres a pic Name: leetersaucer.jpg
Views: 100
Size: 16.7 KB

With the 225 on 19 inch rim I really don't have any rubbing, maybe once in a blue moon.. but for the most part none. I want to go with a Firehawk Indy 500 size 235/60R15. My main reason for switching tire is for more comfort and avoide feeling/ turning into every damn bump or hole in the road. But, I still want somewhat of a performance type tire. Also, I think wider tires look alot better.

I would appreciate any advice/comments.
Thanks!

Re: Tire Selection HELP

I would really appreciate some help selecting my new tires. I am looking for a good looking wide tire that supports a comfortable ride without substuting performance.. Would Firehawk Indy 500 (235/60/R15) be a good choice?

Re: Tire Selection HELP

235 is ridiculously wide and totally unnecessary, it may look good, but it adds a massive amount of rotating mass.

Could you go into more detail? 235 isnt much wider than my current 225's. would the extra width be much of a difference as far as normal hiway and city driving is concerned?

Re: Tire Selection HELP

Yes, tires are really heavy man, they're even heavier than the majority of wheels.

Check the weights by pulling a shipping quote, you'll be shocked.

Maybe 235/50/15 would be better? Or is 235 width tires just overall a bad idea for a civic? How will it affect daily driving?

Re: Tire Selection HELP

why dont u get smaller rims and some stickier tires... like some falken azenis 615 or something...

getting wider tires and getting shitty as tires like the indy500 will not benefit you. (and why else would you want to go wider if u dont want extra grip/traction)

hell, some falken azenis in 205 width would out grip your indy500 with a 235 width

Re: Tire Selection HELP

a rule of thumb, the higher the treadwear, the less grippy they are (but the more miles you will get out of it).

so ur firehawk indy500 has a treadwear rating of 500, which is very high.

the faken azenis has a 200 treadwear.

I'm looking for a tire for more of a comfort and quiet ride as well as being thicker and wider than normal for appearance.

Re: Tire Selection HELP

Maybe a Bridgestone Turanza 225/60/16 would be a better choice than the Firehawks?

or Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500 225/55/16?

but you have 19" rims...

if u wanted anything remotely of a quiet ride you would have gone no larger than 16 or MAYBE 17"

adding wider tires will not give u a quieter ride. u need to add profile but since u have 19" rims, ur profile options are very thin....

/pun intended.

Re: Tire Selection HELP

and if u do go 15" rims, you are going to have to get a very very wide 15" to fit a 235 on there... at least a 7.5 or better yet an 8" wide rim.

Re: Tire Selection HELP

most 15" rims are either a 15x6 or 15x7 rim.

idealy, you want a 205/60/15

either of them are better, but turanza is not exactly performance either.
wide oval is more performance oriented than the turanza (which is more "luxury" brand).

Heck, did you even bother to go to the tire rack site and simply read around a little bit?!?
