first set of wheels

I just got home from college for the summer and am starting to work, so obviously it's time to buy some parts for the vic. First on my list of priorities is rims. I can't decided what to do. I'm set on what size and style I want but I don't know what set to get. I have a 2001 rallye red ex coupe and I want to get some 17" bronze wheels. I can't decide between the 5zigen FN01R-C 's and some Gram Lights 57c's. I could get either but the gram lights are quite a bit more expensive and if I got th 5zigen's I could buy some other parts for my car before I go back to school. What do you guys think?

Re: first set of wheels

you could get some slips in bronze. they look pretty similar.

but yeah if it was me i'd go with the 5zigens just cause they're much cheaper. and like someone suggested, wheels look funky without a drop. i loved how my car looked dropped on steelies though. steelies with pretty much no gap = sick.

Re: first set of wheels

are you goin g for just looks, points at a show, weight reduction? The grams will lose you a little weight, and get you more points at a show, just looks the Z's are nice also.

Re: first set of wheels

I'm going mainly for looks. i don't really care that much about weight reduction. I thought about rotas but I would rather not buy knockoffs. Not that there is anything wrong with rotas, I would just like to buy something better my first time around so I don't have to replace them. Is 5zigen considered JDM?

you wouldn't have to buy new wheels again if you got rotas, as long as you arent ramping potholes.

the better thing about the gram lights is that you'd lose weight, and reducing unsprung and rotational weight = good.

i guess you could consider the 5zigen wheels to have a JDM look, but 5zigen isn't necessarily a JDM brand.

Re: first set of wheels

i like the Gram Lights 57s. i would say go for the lighter weight because you are going with the 17 and you will need the help to get them moving. my .02

Re: first set of wheels

If you're just rolling around town the weight difference is going to be negligible. I kind of like the lip on the 5zigens with the option to get a few more toys. Good luck with whatever you get, I'm sure you'll be happy once you receive your new rims no matter which they are.

Re: first set of wheels

yeah... I'm starting to lean towards the 57s cause the extra spokes will hide those **** drums in the back a little better than the 5 spoke would.
