I have a set of 215/40/17's and 205/40/17's and I was wondering which I should put on my 02 ex sedan. 215/40/17 is one of the recommended sizes on www.tires.com so I was leaning towards those.
I was just wondering if my overall diameter will be any bigger with the 215/40's cause the 205's look a little too skinny when I look at them.
How is 205/40 not recommended if the aspect ratio(tire profile) is the same as the 215/40's?

dang...aGaiN?(this topic)..I'll forgive u for being new to this site.
215/40/17 and 205/45/17 are the only tires thatz closest to our stock tire diameter. I'd suggest you to put on 215/40/17 (215/45/17's are alright too, but they look a lil too thick on 17's, but if the road is harsh , u might as well get this size)

Here's the Kumho 711s in 215/45/17 that I started with:
And the Yokahama Parada Spec 2s in 215/40/17 my car is wearing now:
(NOTE: There is no difference in coilover adjustment from the photo above.)
PS. Wheel gap has been since eliminated. Gotta love coilovers.

215/45/17's is the closest. That is what I run on, as you can see in my member's ride pics. Love the ride and it gives you a tad more cushion between the wheel and road.

I like the 215/40s more than the 215/45s. Looks better IMO.
As far as performance, they are two different tires so I can't really give a valid comparison between the two. The Kumho's felt like they stuck better but they were a little more unpredictable. The Yoks don't feel as sticky, but they are so much more predictable on when they begin to lose grip.
Ride comfort was actually improved when I switched to the lower profile. I think it has more to do with quality of tire than it did with sidewall height.

Alright cool, 215/40 for my next set it is. I've got the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 on there right now and I love them. They're the best bang for the buck, however there seems to be something mysterious about them. They grip very well, but they're not sticky tires, if that makes any sense. The material of the rubber seems like a hard tire. I dunno, maybe I'm trippin.
What do you mean by unpredictable?
