Quick read
i just want to ask if any of you had/need any mod changes before/ after you change any rims?
what do you think is a decent price for 17's? which one better fit our cars 205/40/17 or 215/40/17 ? which one gives more protection? pros and cons of having 17 or 16?
stop da bashing just keep on posting wid useful facts please!
Poll:
who has 16's?
who has 17's?
thanks guys

There is no real DECENT PRICE. Different wheels have different characteristics. If you want a lighter wheel or a wheel with a polished or chrome finish, your going to spend more. If want a rim that is a lead weight, but looks ok, your not going to pay as much. This is pretty much common sense.
16s can suck up potholes. 17s, you'll end up bustin your tire(s) and bending your rim(s). This can be expensive, especially if you want to replace rims that aren't made anymore. 16s are safer, and you'll probably get a better ride. 17s look good. If you're going to make your car a show car, then go 17s... for daily driving, I'd go with 16s.
EDIT: 17s also give you a rougher ride... they are heavier, so you might lose power due to the weight of the rim you get.

Check this out...
When you bend your rims from a pothole, the problem may be solved (if the rim isn't too badly bent) by hammering the rim out... you can get this done somewhere. I wouldn't suggest doing it yourself.
I love 17 inch rims/tires, but I wouldn't get them considering where I live and the road conditions where I live... California has some of the worse roads in the whole U.S.. And where I live, I have some of the worse in Cali... I have the worse in the Bay Area (Oakland), San Jose comes in second place.

ok 205/40/17:
205 is the width of the tire in millimeters.
40 is the percent of the width that makes the height of the sidewall. and 17 is the rim size.
they usually go 205/40ZR17.
R states that it is a radial tire. the Z or V or H is the speed rating.
Z-145+mph
V-125mph
H-86mph

yeah, potholes are definately rough on ur rims if you have 17's. just be a lot more careful, if u decide to go with 17's, i recommend 205/40/17, not 215 40, they tend to fit better on our cars!

Actually....
you only see the "ZR17: on z-rated tires, every other tire has the rating next to the load index, like "89H" or "89 H"
as for the speed ratings, you're way off
Z = 149+
V = 149
H = 130
(* all in mph)
Actually if you get 17's wouldn't it be better if you got 215 45. That way the wheel is going a little slower so the mileage goes a little slower and the tire isn't as low profile so you won't bust your rim.
