i notice off the line i spin the tires a whole lot. thats with 20" slicks. maybe i just suck at launching. so will a 245/40/17 work for my car? some guy is gonna give them to me for free cuz he crashed his 00 celica and needs to part with them soon. i know that they are 24.6 inches tall and may fit, but will it help my cornering and launching?

thats with 20" slicks?????????? whaaa?
any way 245/40-17 More then likely will not fit. its to wide and will rub the shock and possibly the fender...
225 is about as wide as we can go.

that may be part of the problem......
1. tires get harder as they age
2. tires get harder every time they are heat cycled (heated then cooled like in a pass)
so the tires just may be past their usefull life as a race tire.. Even though they probably have plenty of tread left. Its very common, especially with soft rubber found on race tires.
Example, I autocross on a set of falken azenis. the tread on them will easily last one and a half to two seasons of use use. however the "stickyness" of the tire is well used up by the end of 1 season...
Plenty of actual tread left, but the rubber is just not sticky.

with those slicks on, what do you think of a 10.004 8th mile time at 73.76 mph on a 2.415 60 foot time? thats close to the crx times since modified my tq converter to 3200 stall and got my p/p on dec 29
