Non-Newbie ABS question.....

really this is a serious question, really..

How advanced is our ABS system (I have an 01 EX) is it a 2, 3 or 4 channel ABS system.

I'd be nice to know what I'm working with out on the autocross track.

i searched around the net and it seems like the Si, CTR and RSX all have 3 channel. So if you want to extrapolate from that...I would assume that Honda used all the same ABS but who knows. Might have to ask a tech.

Whaaa?

Does ABS turn on when the e-brake is pulled up all the way? I would think so because it's stopping the car in a rush (like slamming on the brakes, but only in the back?). Reason I ask is because when I'm turning fast and pull the e-brake (empty lots = fun) the car slows down too fast and when I touch the brakes, it's pulsing like ABS is on.

Would it be worth it to disconnect my abs when I autocross. Its too sensitive and a real pain in the *** when braking before a turn.

Thanks man, Not as bad as I expected but not as good as I'd hoped....

any way heres the jits on ABS channels....

2 Channel system means that the ABS systme only has 2 Valving systems, for 4 tires.... so 2 tires are tied to the same Valve. ushually in a cross manner. meaning Front left tire is tied in with the Rear right tire and Vice versa. this is a very primitive ABS system. Decent for the street, Hell on a track. Reason being is, if you were entering a corner and doing trail braking and say the rear inside tire was near locking up, well the ABS system would kick in and Isolated that channel, causing the rear tire to not lock up but with the Side affect of Isolating the Front Ouside tire, causing a loss in cornering traction/braking power..... BAD.

3 Channel systems, as above means that there are 3 vavles. Ushually the 2 front tires have their own channel and the rear tires share one. this is a much better system then the 2 channel. so same instance, Trail braing in to a corner..... Rear inside tire on the verge of locking up, so the ABS systme kicks in and Isolates that channel in this case the rear channel. so Both rear tires are isolated, and the rear ouside tire looses some traction/braking power. Much better for the track but not Ideal.

4 channel system........ ok this is the good one. here each tire has its own valve
so once again same instance, Trail braking in to a corner...... Rear tire gets to the verge of Locking up, so the ABS system kicks in and Isolates that tire. but since each tire has its own valve no other tire losses traction or braking power.....

Its illegal to disable ABS in a car that is equipped with it in Street Tire or Stock classes. It may be legal in SP classes and for sure is in SM.
Just learn how far you can push it. I think I've tripped the ABS off twice in all the racing I've done.

Personally I wouldnt have a problem with some one Disabling their ABS and racing in my class..... Untill they were faster then me.. then I'd be protesting up a storm.

But really, just learn to deal with it. and get some stickier tires!
