Buying wheels online - Offsets

Hi all,

I have been a fly on the wall learning everying I can about my 2k2 Civic. This site is AWESOME! Everyone seems very knowledgable and helpful on advising inexperienced ppl with their Civics.

I am finally going to make my first upgrade to the vehicle.

1. Specifically, if I do purchase wheels online (tires will come later) do I need to specify an offset? Who determines the offset? And how do I ensure that the wheels will work with my set up such as suspension mods & tire size purchase in the future?

2. Is it more beneficial to mod my suspension first with Eibach Pro-kit & Koni shocks or is it better to do wheels/tires first? Is there a prefered sequential order of mods?

Thanks in advanced,

Newbie.

You shouldn't need to specify an offset. Telling the store the car make and model should get you the right offset, but there are times where there are 2 offsets that would fit the car, you would have to choose Example: Volk CE28Ns are available in 15x6.5 and 15x7, both with a 4x100 bolt pattern and there are 4 available offsets that would fit a Civic... you'd have to specify, but for the most part, the wheels will come with 1 offset that fits. You're going to want something in the neighborhood of 37-45mm. The manufacturer sets the offset for the wheel, typically for a 7" rim its about 44, and for a 7.5" its about 40. The offset has nothing to do with tire size or suspension mods, its to ensure the brake calipers will clear the wheel spokes.
Basically the lower you want to drop the car, the more offset you'll want to go with, this keeps the wheels from rubbing the fender lips in the back. Tire size is fairly important, for 17" 215/45/17 is closest to stock, but its apparently too wide to drop very far without rubbing. People opt for 205/40 (which is way too small) but I'd say 205/45 would work.
You can do either way... suspension first or wheels first. It doesn't matter. With prokits I doubt you'll run into any fitment problems with anything. They really don't drop the car far enough to make a difference.

Offset on a civic is 4-100 I believe.. Don't know what he was talking about. The second number in 15x6.5 and 15x7 is the width of the wheel..

You're an idiot.
4x100 is the bolt pattern.
15" is the diameter
7" is the width.
