Do I need a wider tire?

I have a 205/45/17 tire, but was looking at my pics and noticed a slight lip on the tire above the rim. should i have gotten a wider tire? my 16x7 rims arent like that and i have a 195 series tire on them. these rims are 17x7.5 w/ a 205 series and there is the lip. is it ok?

when i got 205's for my 17x7.5 i noticed the rim sticks out a lil more than the tire. u can tell when you put the rim on the ground...you'll hear a clank sound instead of the smooth tire sound. i'd suggest u get 215/40/17s. that's what i have rite now, and they're perfect, though i did have to shave/roll the rear fenders a bit.

You mean that lip right next to the outer portion of the rim?

Thats the Rim guard..... It trys to stop you from damaging your wheels.

that rim guard bs doesn't work...i scrapped mine on the curb while backing up to parallel park ... >_< i konw i suck...but i'm still new at the whole stick thing...first stick ever for me and i'm still getting used to it...

anyone i got kumho's on my velox 17x7.5's also and i scrapped...you're best bet is to get the 215's instead, cause mine doesn't have that much gap between the rim and rim guard of the tire.

The rim guard only works a little, if you really **** it up, it's not going to do anything, it probably only gives you about a half inch of leeway... if that...
