HondaLink App - connection issues

HondaLink App - connection issues
I love my Toyota remote app, I can lock my car, start the engine, see how much fuel I have left and a bunch of other features. It’s very handy.
From the pictures in the App Store, it looks like HondaLink will provide the same features, but I can’t get it connected to my phone.
the car picked up my phone quickly and easily for Apple CarPlay, but I can’t connect to the Honda app.
I tried disconnecting the phone from CarPlay and Bluetooth into the car just to connect to the app, but no luck there either. Does anyone have any advice or had luck connecting to HondaLink and maintaining connection to CarPlay?
