Few questions for newbie
Few questions for newbie
Hey y’all. With gas prices what they are I’m gonna have to park my diesel for a bit.
found a decent 2009 civic hybrid. Seller says the IMA light is on. I know this means it needs a new hybrid battery.
my question is, if this is on, other than replacement, can this mean anything else?
if it’s been on for quite some time can it cause damage if car was continually used?
Can that code be cause for another issue? Or is it specifically for the hybrid battery?
im not worried about buying a new one and switching it out. That’s easy. Just want to know what other variables I may be getting into.

Re: Few questions for newbie
from reading other threads about hybrids, the normal battery going out can make the IMA battery to come up, although 2009 is past the normal life for IMA batteries.
the IMA light have codes to them too, but regular cheap scanners cannot read them, you will need to find a scanner that can read honda IMA codes (didn't search for them, not sure if they exist) and them find out what code is triggering the light
many parts compose the hybrid system, could be any of them, from charging to wiring to fuses, you would need to chase them
you can try to see if you can download a manual from here

there are cases were the light can come up when the battery gets exhausted and light does not reset automatically until a battery disconnected too
