Cost of building a B18C1 from short block
Cost of building a B18C1 from short block
I'm thinking of swapping my current d16y7 in my civic for a b18c1 for some added power. A running b18 long block is quite expensive, upwards of 4000 dollars. Would it be cheaper to buy a b18c1 short block from Ebay that is functional and buy and install the remaining parts myself? Or should I just go for the long block. I'm on a budget so maybe I shouldn't even be going for a b18. Any other inexpensive engine swaps recommended that are still fun to drive. The 106 HP D series is just not enough for me and I want to try for something else. Or maybe I should just get a whole other car for the same price as building the block. Opinions? The car is a 1998 Honda Civic DX.

Save your money until you have the funds to do the entire thing. There’s a lot more that goes into the swap than just the engine. You could maybe do a B18B swap for $4000, but even that might be pushing it.
