Custom Project Car - Project [ ]
Re: Custom Project Car - Project [ ]
So, I decided to go for something that felt like an easy win. Tearing out the interior. Back seats are gone (as I only care about this being a 2 seater for now), temporarily removed the passenger seat and most of the center console components. I'd like to make a custom center console, but I'm not sure about material. Does 1/2" MDF sound right? I guess I can Google that.
When I removed the steering wheel the rubber foam at the top had come loose and was spinning, soooooo.....let's cut it all off! I'll look around and see if it can get re-rubbered or maybe make one out of wood.
So weird.
And that's it for now. I work at a cabinet manufacturer, so I have access to materials if I want to make my own console and some basic knowledge in CAD to size it up, so we'll see where I go from here. Definitely want to remove the carpet and sound deadening at some point to inspect for rust before I actually install anything back.

This would be a great opportunity to learn how to lay down fiberglass. Messier and definitely more difficult than MDF, but would be lighter and far less susceptible to any moisture or humidity your car may encounter. Otherwise, MDF would work. You'd have to seal the crap out of it, but yeah, would work. One of my old Navy buddies dreamt of making a custom wood carved center console in his jag. Never got around to it, but he had a vision

I was also going to use that for custom body kit and door card panels.

Upon re-reading my previous post, I did indeed make it sound like an entire assembly would be made. My bad.
One thing I'm a little unsure of is how I want everything to be unbranded, but I also want some cool mods. Cyberpunk style sliding doors, custom exhaust, interior, body kit, etc. But then I think that instead I'm just setting myself up to make it a shaved sleeper.
Would it go against my vision to have it heavily modified?

I might work on the existing D16 to get the car running at least, instead of feeling discouraged because of audacious goals haha.

So I don't really want this to be true but here's the TL;DR.
- my landlord told us she wants to sell the house we're renting. There are no options available for my income that provide me with the means to keep the car so I'm selling it.
Sorry to disappoint anyone interested in the project but I'm also pretty bummed. I was excited to debadge everything. Shave down engine bays and door handles. All of it. But I need to let it go.
Thanks for your time.
