A/C Performance Issue

My 96 civic a/c blows cold, but very low fan output. Have to run fan at 2, 3, or 4 to get meaningful flow. Tried to charge system and now I get hot air blowing. Condensor turns on, but the higher the fan setting, the warmer the air. I also get an intermittent pulsing from condensor. Sounds like it's under a heavy load, but not sure that's the right description. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Re: A/C Performance Issue

A/C charge has no effect on air flow output from the vents. I would look at the cabin air filter, it's probably dirty and blocking air flow.

The condensor doesn't turn on, I believe you mean compressor. So did you take a bottle and just put it in the system without measuring pressures at all? It's likely over-charged now.

Thank you. I will get a new cabin filter. If I overcharged the system, is there a way to fix that?

Re: A/C Performance Issue

Get a real set of gauges and verify it is overcharged first. Or have a shop recover and then recharge the system.

Re: A/C Performance Issue

Last night I had a pro test my system and he used proper gauges to confirm that the pressure and charge is ok. The low pressure line was hot, which concerned him. Air blowing into car was warm. It eventually cooled off, but air coming out of vent is still not cold. My mechanic is investigating this further, but I'd appreciate any other ideas or things to check. I found out cabin filters were not yet available in my 96 Civic, but I'd still like to figure out what could be reducing air flow. Thank you.

Re: A/C Performance Issue

Did they say what pressures they were reading?

I wasn't sure if 6th gens had cabin filters. I tried searching an online parts store and they had some available so I assumed. There are a few other things that could reduce air flow: failing blower motor, failing fan controls, blockage in the ducts, maybe a bad blower motor resistor.

Based on the things I've heard about that place I wouldn't trust them to sell me washer fluid
