The heating/cooling **** in my 2000 hx has never worked. There is no AC but for the most part I've been able to turn the heat on/off by going under the hood and fiddling with the **** that seems to be connected to a valve of some sort. I have no idea how it works, I've just had to stand there with one hand in the interior over a vent and the other messing with the ****.
Since the weather has just turned cold I haven't had any success getting the heat back on. At best I get tepid-warmish air. i wouldn't be surprised if I've somehow damaged the valve because I've turned it 360+ degrees several times. Along its axis it has 90 degrees of firmness, 90 degrees of looseness, then 90 firm and 90 loose. It'd be great to have an understanding of how this thing works so that maybe I can intelligently get the heat on, rather than just turning it this way and that until I (hopefully) get the setting I need.
Now, hopefully there are some people on here surfing on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Because tomorrow I need to drive from Oakland back to Salt Lake City with my dog in the back, and he's going to want that heat!
Can't tell you for sure since I don't have a cutaway view of the valve, but it's likely a butterfly or ball-**** valve (most likely the latter) that controls coolant flow into the heater core. If anything makes sense in the world (which, we all know, often times is not the case), if the "lever" is pointing along the pipe, then it should be open. If it's sticking out perpendicular to the pipe, should be closed.
This position tells me this should be a closed valve.
np my dude. That's what we're here for. I just hope that they designed that valve with some common sense in mind. That vertical pin is supposed to connect to something that controls it opening and closing from your instrument panel.
