20 year old car, recommended maintenance
Hello all, new forum member here. I just bought a 2000 Civic EX Coupé 5MT with 130k miles, and I'd like a bit of advice on what component replacements to make before handing the keys over to my daughters. A few off the top:
Complete replace of all clutch components and resurface flywheel
Swap out the water pump and timing belt tensioner, even though the previous owner claimed the timing belt had just been changed.
While I'm at it, I'll replace the AC idler pulley.
Replace all engine seals to fix what looks like a oil leak from the head gasket
It idles rough, so I am going to clean the EGR valve and replace the PCV. I'll also take a look at the IAC valve (went bad on an Escape that I finally got rid of).
Replace all powertrain mounts
The steering wheel has WAY too much play; I've chased the problem down to an old power rack that I can't tighten. I'll be replacing the power steering with a manual rack. I know the sub frames on the 6th gen are the same power/manual steering, but does this change need a new column Joint B?
Other than the steering, the rest of the suspension is also too loose, so I'll be replacing the ball joints. At what point do the control arms need to be replaced?
Any suggestions on the harmonic balancer? Does this go bad on Civics within 20 years?
I'm open to other things that are long-term replacement items that could leave the kids stranded when they break.

Re: 20 year old car, recommended maintenance
I’m gonna guess that most of this isn’t necessary. I’ve never replaced a harmonic balancer on any of my Honda’s (which both have had over 180k miles).
