Power steering to Manual

Has anyone tried this?

http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=184202

Long post but in a nutshell:
Looping the rack lines with a breather to maintain pressure in the rack to make steering less stiff while removing the pump. Apparently it is a step above removing the p/s belt. It makes steering easier than just losing the belt and eliminates the parasititc draw (i.e. more power).

I have always hated the p/s since my first Honda was a 90 Civic without p/s and there is no need for it on such a small car. My belt has been off for a couple of weeks but the parking lot turns are a bit annoying.

It looks like an easy mod and just want to know if it's been attempted on a 7th Gen.

I can't be the only one trying to ditch the power steering.

if you have just aken off the belt, that means you are still running through the pump, ie when you steer you are pressuizing the pumps. I have not done this on a civic, but I had a Camaro that I put a 393 strocker into, and I didn't want to bother with the p/s, so I just capped the in and out on the rack, make sure there is p/s fluid in there before you cap them though.

Yeah, that's the basic idea. It loops the in and out and has a breather to help relieve some of the excess pressure. Some fluid is left in the rack to lube the seals, but they state that the less amount of fluid the easier the steering since there is left fluid to move thru the rack.

I am gettin ready to do a K20A2 swap and am thinking about not have P/S installed. Do you have any regrets removing your P/S?

Are you planning on installing a manual rack or just not using the pump et al for the power steering rack? I've been driving around for the past couple of months with the power steering belt off and it's a bit tough to steer at low speeds (parking lots). According to the above link, looping the rack lines and installing a breather (with less fluid in the rack) eases the effort needed and allows the pump et al to be removed. It seems the whole trick is to reduce the amount of fluid contained in the rack and to allow built up pressure to escape.

It looks like an easy mod and will get rid of the power steering parasitic draw and make the steering easier.

My intent would be not to have P/S period. I am having my local tuner do the swap so they will have to determine the best way to go about it. I will mention to them the idea of looping the rack lines and installing a breather.

How do you think the car would act during autocrossin? Some of the turns are pretty crazy and I am wondering if I would end up regretting not having P/S.
