General questions about my new Honda Civic
Hello everyone I just bought a 2003 Honda Civic LX. 1.7L d series with a 5 speed manual transmission. I bought the car with 235k miles on it and not in drivable condition. The motor and transmission are both good transmission seems to shift smoothly and clutch seems strong. All the car needed was brake lines and new front tires. Now that I have all that done and the car is now drivable. My main question here is that do you guys think this car would be able to make it on a 2500 mile road trip? I’m planning on doing basic tune up, New spark plugs, going to do a compression test while changing the plugs, oil change, air filter, and anything else I can do. So when I do the compression test and all cylinders come back saying they have good PSI I don’t see why the car wouldn’t make it on a long road trip? I know it has high miles but if the motor has good compression, clutch doesn’t slip at all, doesn’t burn too much oil and it has all new brake lines and tires the car should be able to make it on a long road trip like that fine right? Thank you guys !
Re: General questions about my new Honda Civic
Keep an eye on your coolant level, notably the overflow reservoir. If that begins to exceed capacity, then it needs a head gasket. These cars are notorious for it. Wouldn’t hurt to check the state of the timing belt. These are interference engines so there’s a 99% chance you trash your engine if it snaps.
Otherwise, you should be okay.
