Changing oil on '04 EX

Hey Everybody,

The manual says I need a special wrench to remove the oil filter (that I can buy at a dealership). Do I need a this "special" wrench or is Honda just trying to get more money out of me?

Thanks.

Use a oil filter wrench. Many varieties.

I use one like this the most, removal only.
There are plenty of other styles too, google it

If you can't get the filter off with your hands, you will need a tool of some sort.
You can use darn near anything to remove it, no concern with damage.

I install the filter by hand.

You can get the tool at a store for a couple bucks. Or jam screw driver through the filter to assist your hand turn.

Well as long as the filter is installed properly with a lubricated gasket and the oil change is not severely overdue, 95% of the time it will come off by hand. Unless it's a Toyota, those damn things seem to glue themselves on

Re: Changing oil on '04 EX

Reminds me, maybe I should punch a hole in the filter before removing.. drain it out before it all dumps out.
