Vibration

2010 honda civic lx

I get vibration around 70 mph. I get to feell it from 50 to 70 getting worse towards 70.

Cheked wheels all tight no tie rod or anything else loose.

checked balance on wheels perfect. swapped wheels back to front .. these are oem steelies and still persists.

I noticed I got some warped rotors.. I do use ceramic pads.

my next step would be to cut them and see if it fixes it... I dont see how but I guess its possible they would be out of round so much that at high speeds to cause vibration?

Any other ideas.. ?

where is my buddy ZONE?

WTF happen with the 8th gen its all plastics made, seems cheaper build than 7th gen. these things are not cheap for eco box

Plastic is the new steel. It's being used everywhere.

Re: Vibration

f..n I cut the rotors now I get great brakes.. vibration is still there.

Where is The ZONE man..
Wth I am I missing, its not tires, nor rims, no alighment..
I guess I will check the struts for top mount bolt lousiness..
and check the rack bolts to tightness.

I am running out of ideas here.
It vibrates at 60 starts more progressive at 70 mph.. seems more on driver side of wheel.

I get this if I pop in neutral or D is the same. so ..

already checked suspension no play no tie rods..

mounts look ok.. but I will double check.

Didnt these have steering rack bolts loose or front struts?

I checked wheel bearings looked fine, no hum or play.. But i didnt unbolt the axles to spin them by hand..

I got two different gremlins challenging me.. once is my ac my other post, and this vibration..

Re: Vibration

ok
I think I found the cullprit.. car has 100k miles.. Its drive shafts have some play on the inner joint. so i took them apart..

there was a play pushing them up and down while in car.. not in and out .. up and down.
I also drove it on stands to 70mph and car was vobrating like crazy..

I wonder can I swap the outer cv cups between sides.

here is pic.. one of it is touch longer on the driver side than the passanger side.. so technically this will make the driver side touch shorter and passenger side touch longer.

I can elaborate why I want to swap them, because the bearing inside it will hit the opposite side of the cup, and I can see if the vibration is gone.. nobody drives in reverse 70mph anyways..

In the old days shafts were the same the cups.. but this honda they look diffrent and size wise..
diffrent weight also, so I am not sure , because drive shafts are sometimes balanced ..

So i dont like aftermarket shafts they are not ussualy same strength as OEM.. But the ****en OEM didnt last 100k.. my last civic I drove to 330,000 miles till someone hit me on original shafts.

Honda quality going down or what?

Re: Vibration

nope I took the axels out, and completely aparts to see if tripod joint etc .. and examined clearances.. its not the axels..

I had one clicking cv joint so I replaced that joint.. Separate issue.

The vibration is still there..

I was busy but in 2 weeks after my work trip I will look into it again.,

I am bummed..

Can you have a bad wheel bearing that's not causing noise and vibrates and high speed only ? they seem fine when I spin the hubs by hand..

I thought I had the culprit but I was wrong.

It feel the tranny vibrates, not the wheels..

So I am thinking a mount for transmission? but only doing it at hight speed is unusual..

EZONE any other suggestions??????????????
, I ruled everyting out ..

can a wheel bearing cause this? no noise and the hubs spin fine by hand when you get the brakes and axels out....

Unless some steering rack is loose, I saw some TSB for the gen civics had that to tighten the steering rack.

Re: Vibration

Been too busy to be here....didn't read all the posts....Have you tried
I also drove it on stands to 70mph and car was vobrating like crazy..
Do this again only run it at 35 mph.....carefully force one wheel to stop spinning so the opposite wheel spins at 70.
This process should let you figure out which side is causing the vibration, assuming its only one side'

and watch each wheel as it spins at lower speed, could have a hub problem causing wheel to not spin true?
Stock wheels, not aftermarket?

Stock wheels. yes. bearings? no play no noise for sure

how would a hub bend out of shape? I will test this..
I have dial indicator,to use that but spinning would have to be by hand and I don't know specs for out of round...

I will try your 35 mph first.

What's troubling me how would it get bent? or out of round.?

it seems the vibration comes form driver side where tranny sits.. not like a wheel.. by driving it.
could also be transferring vibration... in all my years of auto work never ran into this complicated **** ghost chasing .
