No crank no start, bad starter?

Got a random no crank no start problem and I only hear one click from glove box I think it's the main relay, absolutely nothing on engine bay.
Dash has power and all interior power cut off when turning the key(as expected).

And it starts right up after tapping the starter with a hammer lightly.

So looks like a bad starter. I'm thinking of repairing it myself, and seems that there're two types of repair kit:
for brush and for solenoid.

So how do I know which is correct kit?

I'm now considering replacing the whole starter if it's the issue(hopefully).
Any suggestion on Denso vs Store brands?
Denso is 1 year warranty store brand is lifetime.

Thanks.

Re: No crank no start, bad starter?

I usually pull (Honda OEM) one or have on pulled from local salvage yards. Generally between $25-$35 and no concern about fitment. They check them with a battery and jumper cables prior to payment. Usually, at least a 30 day warranty/full replacement.

Part store starters are usually rebuilds that have a new brush kit and perhaps a new gear.

Re: No crank no start, bad starter?

My local LKQ wants $30 for starter, same price as ebay's OEM pull.

My starter has a failing solenoid but I'm sure it can still pass bench test, as it fails like once every 20 starts.
But the solenoid is sealed and can't be dissembled...

Options:
new TYC starter from amazon $90 no core charge + 1 year warranty
denso rebuild: $100 + core charge + 1 year warranty
store brand: $90(AAP) + core charge + lifetime warranty

I've been fortunate with used OEM parts so I generally lean in that direction. Save $60-$70 dollars would be to tempting for me.
Rather do local than any returns that involve shipping. Just.my 2 cents.

Re: No crank no start, bad starter?

Update: got a starter from AAP and replaced it today.
Fairly easy job, lots of youtube videos. Had to use breaker bar for one of the 14mm bolts though.
The new starter sounds differently than the OEM.
OEM starts right away, this starter will spin for a split of second then starts the car.

One thing worth noting, while the the solenoid is not serviceable, it can be replaced.
About $120 for OEM and $20 on ebay. That's the cheapest option but I have no confidence
on ebay parts so I go with store starter instead.

Hold on to that lifetime guarantee receipt, you're going to need it..lol. Just messing with you. Should last a couple years hopefully.
Gold to hear you got it straighten out.
