Since I've replaced timing belt, tensioner an water pump. Crank an cam sensors, fuel pump battery an terminals reset pcm. No flashing key car trys to start but will not stay running. Been a mechanic for 20 years an I'm stumped no active DTC in system. Any ideas? Timing is dead on

Re: Civic crank but no start

I would start by looking for loose battery/ground cables.

Re: Civic crank but no start

As I've stated that's all been checked and replaced on engine bay side. As for inside the vehicle I've yet to look.

Re: Civic crank but no start

If it won't start now you're missing either compression, fuel, or spark. You will have to start testing to find out which one.

Re: Civic crank but no start

Did you use Honda genuine crank and cam sensors or cheap aftermarket replacements?

After markets but both sets of sensors have been tried. Highly doubt all 4 are bad.

Re: Civic crank but no start

Honda's don't like aftermarket sensors, go grab some from the junkyard if you don't want to pay full price.

Re: Civic crank but no start

I had a problem from brand new 7th Gen car with 1.7 motor.
After running for a while and stopping engine, say for gas it would crank but was hard to start.
Last year on really hot days the engine would just stop intermittently for no reason and after about 10 minutes I could start it normally again.
Eventually found the problem was the TDC Sensor failing with heat soak at garage or during really hot weather (>38deg C)
Old sensor had J5T23991 2509 PLC written on it.
I replaced it with 37840RJH006 Sensor from Honda which Supercedes J5T23991 2509 PLC
It was showing Fault Code P1361 when it was failed and hot.
Hope this helps.

Yes I own Three 1.7l Honda engines one in a 2001 civic ex two 2005 special edition ex cars, I had the same Problem, Becarefull where You get your Crankshaft position-speed sensor, Because I bought 1 from advance auto it lasted about 6 months then failed to start when hot because of no speed signal while turning it over with the starter, I bought a $15.00 Ebay sensor so called OEM that coded out right away for a intermittent signal, I did buy a $70.00 O-Reilly auto parts sensor so far it's working now for two weeks, If it fails again I am retiring my 2001 will take it from that car.

Re: Civic crank but no start

Forgot to update thread. The converter was plugged shut. Got that replaced and ran great for months. Now I have a bad miss engine I'm tracking down.

Re: Civic crank but no start

quick and easy/free checks: move plugs and coils to see if the mis follows

realistically, prepare your rear end for potential HG change because, well, D17
