02 EX - Replaced fuel filter, won't start
02 EX - Replaced fuel filter, won't start
Car had been hesitating to turn over and sometimes stuttered on acceleration -- both were especially problematic when it was below a quarter tank.
Hoping it was the filter I followed these ( https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...placement.html ) very helpful instructions and replaced the filter and strainer. Thought everything went together perfectly even pulled it out again to check all the connections.
Car simply won't turn over now. I can hear the pump whirring, etc, but it won't start. I'm thinking I can replace the regulator but if that aint it then I'm already 2/3s of the way into a whole new pump unit which is exactly what I was trying to avoid
Any suggestions?
Friend told me to find something that looks like a bike tire valve on the fuel line up front to see if I'm getting fuel pressure up there but I can't find what on earth he's talking about... sorry bit of a car noob

Re: 02 EX - Replaced fuel filter, won't start
figured it out. Actually found it on a Nissan forum . . . lol.
I neglected to move over / replace with new one of the little rubber o-rings on the new filter. Fires like a champ now. Thanks for saving me 300+ bucks on a new pump, civic forums!

Re: 02 EX - Replaced fuel filter, won't start
i have done that exact same thing. change fuel filter/strainer.
so you think its the O-ring that needs replaced?

Re: 02 EX - Replaced fuel filter, won't start
I just had this happen with my 2008 civic - replaced the fuel strainer, then the car wouldn't start. I was going crazy because I could hear the pump "whirring," I took the fuel line off all the way up to the rail, and gas came out when turned the ignition, even took the fuel relay to Autozone to have it tested (yeah, don't just buy a new one, they have a nifty little tester for relays!), but the car just wouldn't start. Finally posted on a Facebook group dedicated to 8th gen civics and found a kind soul who had been through the same thing.
What happened was when I took the fuel pump out of the sending unit, the o-ring that goes on the pump outlet got stuck up in the sending unit insert. so, when I pulled the pump back out (yeah, sucks you have to take everything apart again), I could see the o-ring stuck up in the sending unit insert. Had to fish the o-ring out with a little pick then put it on the fuel pump outlet. After that, when I put the pump in the sending unit it fit in much better! And... first try starting it, it started! What happened was the pump was working fine, but because it didn't get seated properly back into the sending unit, it just wasn't delivering enough fuel, at a high enough pressure to the engine.
