Auto Tranny going???

Okay I have a weird problem.... I seams to me that my tranny is slipping going into second....the weird part is that it only happens when the car is cold which makes no sense....The tranny should work better when it is cold....BTW I have almost 18,000 miles....do you think this could just be because the tranny fluid/tranny fluid filter needs to be changed....Once the coolant temp gauge is at its normal position the slipping goes away...Thanks for the help

The tranny is going to run better once it's warmed up... the fluid will flow better once it heats up to operation temp. 18000 is too soon for tranny fluid... I think the interval is 30K. Sounds like a dealer trip is in order.

I think TSB 01-049 refers to this problem, but I can't seem to find it on NHTSA's website. It is mentioned in one of the "gereral" articles about A/T problems, but fails to provide cause or diagnosis of the problem.

okay its a auto tranny but if i look at the tach the engine revs and then drops when it is shifting.....it also takes too long for the power to get to the wheels

Alright just got back from Honda...They said they I need a new solinoid and a transmission bushing kit. They ordered the parts and I will have to bring it back next week...If that doesn't work then a new tranny has to go in...I should have never listened to my parents and gotten the auto

ak can only hope to improve
Mine feels like it slips sometimes.... revs up to 4k rpm to shift.

Or it shifts and when the RPM is dropping, it kind of stalls or it sounds like it's getting stuck.

heres what happened with me. im at 32,000 miles on a AUTO 2k1 civic lx sedan. i bought it june 01.
I went to u of iowa this weekend, once we got alomst all the way home i got off I80 to drop my friend off. Got back and and accelerated to get up to speed and it accelerated reeeealy slow from 40-60. I figured, hmmm its never done that before ill have to take it in soon. So i went straight from there to work. worked a few hours, and on the way home I was driving and would accelerate through 2nd. it would go to about 5500-6000 rpms and drop into 3rd. BUt instead of dropping down all the way to 2000rpms or whatever its supposed to be it only went down to 4500. So im like hmmm looks like 3rd is gone. I was about a mile from my house and im like i can make it home with 1st and 2nd. I turned a corner and went to accelerate coming out of the corner and nothing. the car was like it was in neutral. so i used my momentum to get to a side street, i parked and tried every gear. everything acted like it was in neutral. so my car is currently sitting in that same spot. and im waiting for honda to open in 15 min so that i can call them. Whats everybodys take on this?

I had the neutral problem too. First the car just reved in all the gears no movement, then I shut the car of for a min, started it and it worked fine, I was driving to honda and it keep on slipping into neutral (out of gear) I got to honda and left it there.
After a few days they had told me the car was fine (they changed the fluid) and so I took it home. And of course, on my way home it did it again. I did the same thing, shut it off, started it and finally after 45 mins got to honda. Got really pissed at them for not checking it on a road test.
Well, after a week they told me the car is fixed, they put a new tranny and torque converter.

FUNNY part is this was all happen when the car had only 2200 KM!!! AND ON NEW YEARS EVE!!!

i'm getting really poor gas milage...(around 11.7L/100km)....does anyone think it could be caused by a bad torque convertor?

the car often feels as though it's really lacking power....i would gas and rpm goes up but the car doesn't really start accelerating until a moment later...

i had the same problem untill i started thinking. i did the diy throdle adjustment and thought that might have a little something to do with the slipping from first to sec when the car is cold. i put it back to factory and everything runs fine as of now. try it let me know what happens.

Hey swkfilms,,,i had the exact same **** happen to me @ 33,000 miles, and they replaced my trans with a new one and said i had a broken trans mount also. Also, it took them like 7 days to fix it, but they paid for a rental car which we drove to all hell, even picked up a homless guy put him in the trunk cuz he thought we were giving him a ride and drove over some wicked speed bumps. But anyway, yeah honda should do a recall or post a service bulletin.

btw, the honda bulletins say they use refurbished/rebuilt trannys as replacements...how do you know it's brand new?
