I've read Wrencher's thread investigating these auto trans. l received a call from my daughter said her 02 civic wont go over 25 mph and is slipping. I bought the car 2 yrs ago with 110k. changed atf fluid and used Honda fluid.
it now has about 123k. the car is 3 hrs away. do I have a chance of changing fluid again and possibly making it home on her own power? or should I just plan on towing it home? I found a used Acura tranny that the guy says will fit 01-05 civic? did Acura's have same issues with there trannys?
I have never rebuilt a car transmission before.
should I just pull the bad tranny and have it rebuilt?
any help would be appreciated.

For the worst..I would plan on towing. Never know, when you get there, may be 4 bigmac boxes under the gas pedal...

thanks ripsaw. I was hoping for something simple like that but I am never that lucky. I had her try it in drive not overdrive to see if it would make a difference and it ended up stranded about a half mile away. she called her roommate to get a ride back, roommate brought half of the softball team and they pushed the car by hand back to their apt. so now they are telling me I owe them pizza. I guess they like my homemade pizza.
ok about the acura transmission, the guy said he bought a used engine from some where and when they shipped the engine it had a transmission on it and he didn't need it. said he put the engine in a ridgeline.
im going to keep looking for a used 04-05 tranny.
