Transmission problems?
Transmission problems?
I'm not sure if it's always been like this or if I just started noticing- but every time I accelerate and it shifts from a lower to higher gear, I get a sort of pause..or surge when it switches gears (automatic transmission).
Is this normal..?

Re: Transmission problems?
you mean its slipping gears? like when it should be shifting, the engine revs up like its in neutral? if thats the case then ya get ready for a fail while driving one day.
Re: Transmission problems?
you will need to buy a new one i say you see if anyone you know knows someone who can do it because auto shops are way over priced, my uncle knows someone and hes only doing it for 1000 cmpared to 3500 at the shop

Re: Transmission problems?
well for now keep driving til it breaks. you may get some more use out of it. until it starts slipping 1k rpm and more, id say you still have time.
Re: Transmission problems?
Sorry to drag this thread on, but I'm a little confused and hoping to get some more advise or suggestions.
So ok, since it seemed my transmission was slipping and it shifted hard I decided to take it into the dealer to see what they had to say about it. They checked it out, 'test drove' it twice, 1st time 15 minute session, second time 30 minute session and they said it was all ok, no problems. They said if there was a real problem, like the transmission slipping, then a computer chip on the car would tell them that problem and it didn't.
I get it back and it drives great for 20 minutes, then it starts shifting really hard from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd - I feel it surge forward every gear change.
My car only has 37,000 miles on it and I don't drive recklessly (most of the time
), and I'm easy on the transmission - so this issue is really bugging me to death!
Do you think this still sounds like a transmission issue? Maybe something else could be loose .. or not well lubricated.. ?
Also.. I got the car at 12,000 miles and it was perfect, the guy maintained it very well. The only thing I've done since then is an oil change and tire rotation + balance. Should there be some other routine maintenance that should be done?
Please any input would be awesome.
Thanks guys.

Re: Transmission problems?
yes its a defect, not your fault. nothing you can do other than rebuild the entire trans. ive seen some of them fail at 20k miles and others at 100k miles. all you can do is change the fluid it may shift smoother but the slipping wont go away.
Re: Transmission problems?
Oh..I'mm dumb. Something in my head made me think that said bmw and not btw...
Gah.
Anyways I think I'm on the verge of spamming this thread. I guess I'll just wait it out and see if the problem gets any worse, maybe get it checked by a transmission shop instead of the dealer next time.
Thanks for all the help-
