Door Check that WILL NOT come out
Hello,
I have a 99 Civic DX coupe and the bolt that holds the door check to the chassis of the frame is just spinning in place. I've tried yanking the darn thing out with a vice grip but no luck. Its feels like its being held in there by something. I've posted this issue on Facebook forms but most were unhelpful or suggested that I hit my Civic with my purse (LOL). One guy mentioned that I might have to take my fender off and welding something in the back but I was curious to know if there were alternative methods to fix the issue. I am not having any major issues with the door because of the door check. I just have this disgusting clicking noise every time I open or close my door that echos through eternity of time.
Thank you for your time!

Re: Door Check that WILL NOT come out
If that bolt was held in place by a nut that was welded to the frame that broke off then it will be more difficult. Drill it out or get to the back of the bolt so you can hold the nut or whatever it is.
Cutting the bolt head off would help also.

Re: Door Check that WILL NOT come out
Those who are curious to know what happened to this door check issue...
I removed the fender to get to the backside of the bolt, but it is unreachable. Even if you remove the fender it is located on the inner side of the frame so unless you plan on cutting your frame to reach it, it’s impossible. I hope that makes sense.
My plan B was to use JB Weld. After drying, I sanded all the unnecessary weld around the door check. It works fine and you can’t even tell it’s got JB Weld on it. I suggest taking some microfiber towel and cleaning off as you apply the weld.
