Trying to find the right starter

So I have a rebuilt 97 Honda civic 1.6L manual with a motor swap and an S20 transmission. My starter was stolen so i'm trying to find something compatible that works. I mistakengly bought a starter for a 97 honda civic and the teeth won't reach. I've looked all over the internet and I keep getting mixed results. Would anybody be able to help me?

Buy the starter corresponding to the engine code.

I got the starter to spin but it spins for a few seconds then metal on metal smack. I rotate the flywheel with a ratchet and try again to the same outcome.
