Plug and Play Engine overhaul
Hiya everyone! I want to get my little car running great. It's had 176,000 really hard miles. I just got it and it just gobbles oil.
I was curious about something that I hadn't found an answer for that I searched.
I want to do an overhaul on the motor, but I don't have micrometers or any fancy engine rebuild stuff to do it myself.
So, I was curious if I can unbolt the cylinder head and send it to a shop and have them do all new valves seated and get that resurfaced etc etc. And do the same for the bottom block, and when I get both of those things back, can I buy new pistons, rings, seals, etc etc. And basically plug everything back together? (Following torque and order etc). Or does it all have to be done by a shop?
It's a very mechanical question that I hadn't even found an answer to on YT even. D16 engine (nothing too fancy).
Thank you in advance!

Re: Plug and Play Engine overhaul
How much $$$ are you expecting to spend and how long are you expecting to drive a Gen 6 before everything else fails on it?
If you’ve never overhauled an engine, then its best leave it up to the pros. You’ll get what you pay for. Try and do it the cheap way or take shortcuts and you could waste both time and money and be left stranded. Find a reputable Import shop with good reviews.

My worry is that your lack of experience with rebuilding an engine will neither save you money nor time. If you have an experienced friend that has all the specialty tools and can really help, then I say go for it. Or, you could take this as a challenge and prove me wrong. But, if you REALLY want experienced advice, look for a reputable shop.

Well that doesn't really get into the fine toothed of what experience has to offer besides being able to chunk it all back together faster. If anyone can read and follow directions...why not. I'm not being difficult, I'm just looking for a more technical response as to why someone would say NO.
