96 1.6L starts and dies immediately

So I've been dealing with this for about two weeks, my 96 will start up and drive all day as long as my foot maintains idle. If my foot comes off the gas, the car immediately dies with the exception of once or twice a day, where it'll try to idle before missing and falling on its face. Has a pretty hefty misfire all the way through the gears. My codes were a "PCM has failed" code and an Idle air control circuit code. PCM and idle air control valve both replaced and no change whatsoever. No codes after those were replaced. Istart the car and maintain idle with my pedal then after a few seconds I definitely notice a smell of gas. Did a dry compression test and it was quite low at 90psi but theres no burning of oil and head gasket was done about a year ago by yours truly, everything to spec.
Update: wanted to try the idle reprogram after the IAC, got about two minutes in on trying to hold the idle at around 700rpm and noticed smoking. Catalytic converter was red hot, so next day I gut it, and same day change out the FPR and checked timing (good). Now the car will:
1.idle perfectly for about 30 seconds, backfire, then die
2.turn over, backfire, then die
3.turn over, die without a backfire
4.turn over, idle erratically, backfire, then idle perfectly for about 30 seconds, see #1.

Still only 1 O2 sensor code, it's unplugged. I'm at a loss. Gonna test fuel pressure tomorrow as well as clean and test injectors.
