1996 Honda civic low rpm and stall

1996 Honda civic low rpm and stall
So the car is all fine and idles perfectly when driving normal but as soon as i start stepping on it and hitting vtec for some time my idle starts going up and down (from 900 to 300 rpms at times and then it goes back up). Some times it also stalls when i drop it in neutral. What could it be?
