spun rod bearing

So it all started after I started with a ticking noise on cylinder four. Unplugging the wire would stop the ticking and the ticking would happen at about 2500 rpm. One day while driving it happened. Vibrations in the clutch and shifter, loss of power and white smoke comimg from the hood. I pulled over and had it towed home. I just had a moment to drop the pan today to inspect and the rod bearings and they are all tight but cylinder 4 had lots of play. After pulling the cap off I see that the rod bearing above the crank on cylinder 4 spun its self on top of what was left of the bottom bearing. The pictures will speak for themselves. I have even had this car 6 months yet and there was nothing I could have done to prevent this from happening it was just a matter of time. Now to replace the rod bearing and polish the crank. This will just be a temp fix until I can put a new engine in there.

Re: spun rod bearing

You would probably be better off just replacing the engine now rather than waiting. You can find a used one for ~$500.

Don't know what your plans are but polishing the crank usually involves a machine shop, removing the crank is quite a bit of work.

Im gonna do a low mile z6 jdm conversion in a few months. I'm gonna polish the crank with the shoe string method and some memory cloth.
