Help! Civic crank no start

Hi guys I'm new here so if this is the wrong section to post this let me know. Anyways I'm currently driving a 2000 civic hatch for the past 3 years and never had any problem. It leaks a bit and burns oil but I do oil changes on time and do check and top it up. However here in Canada we suffered through a terrible cold snap that went as low as -40 degree Celsius for a week most cars that week did not start at all. The first day of the cold snap, the car started fine and was able to drive it back and forth to work.2nd day of the cold snap my car wasn't turning over and just cranks. Waited out until it got warm but still cranks and doesn't start. It's been 3 weeks since that happened and still does the same. I checked out chrisfix's video for his crank no start featuring the civic model year. I checked the fuel rail and loosened it and I got good fuel pressure. I checked the ignition system and the spark plugs as I have never done it for driving it for 3 yrs/45,000 kms. The spark plugs were worn out and replaced them along with the wires and tested it by grounding the spark plug to the valve cover and it was getting strong sparks, But still it did the same hesitating crank no start, I replaced the main relay, Ignition coil and Ignition control module in the distributor as well. check the compression and it was OK and passed, a bit low since piston rings were worn out. I checked the timing and removed the valve cover gasket and the timing belt cover and it was right on the money on the timing marks from the cover. Right now I'm scratching my head on how to start this thing since it is my daily driver. Mobile mechanics here are either sketchy, know-it-all backyard mechanics or druggies that will disappear once you hand over the money. Appreciate all the help I could get at this point. Thank you

Re: Help! Civic crank no start

Fist, try spraying the TB with starter fluid and press the gas pedal down fully when cranking. If that doesn't work remove the o2 sensor harness and try starting it.

Possibly the crank position sensor or cam sensor?... video below on how to test. Also, do a smoke test to rule out a severe vacuum leak.

Re: Help! Civic crank no start

thanks for replying. I purchased the starter fluid and pressed the gas pedal down fully while cranking it with the help of my brother and still wont turn over. I did also get a scanner and it is currently throwing no codes at all when in on position. should it throw a couple of codes if its the CPS or the cam sensor that failed? will try to remove the o2 sensor harness and try it out again and check for a severe vaccum leak

Re: Help! Civic crank no start

Probably just the battery. Does it start while a running vehicle is jumping it?

Re: Help! Civic crank no start

thanks for all the help guys. i turns out its the distributor itself even though I replaced the ignition coil and module. even though there is spark, its wasnt generating enough spark to ignite

Don't buy an aftermarket distributor, get one from a junkyard
